Please define what encompasses the Tenderloin area in San Francisco

Jump to last reply

I've looked at maps and tried to figure out what area we need to avoid walking into while we are visiting San Francisco with our family this summer.

Most sites just refer to the area in terms of neighborhood names (west of Union Square, south of Nob Hill, east of the Western Addition and Van Ness corridor, and north of SOMA) as opposed to defining the area by bounding street names. I don't know where one neighborhood begins and another ends so I'm having trouble marking my map as to where this Tenderloin is.

Any help you can offer just to help me figure out where it wouldn't be cool to walk around with two teenage girls would be appreciated. Or will this be pretty obvious once we are there?
