Please advise on Sunjet and Spirit Airlines

Have you ever taken Sunjet or Spirit Airlines from Newark, NJ to Fort Lauderdale? Or to and from another destination? Was it good? Bad? Are these airlines worth it to save $150? Were there any problems? Please let me know. Thank you.

I've never flown either one of those airlines, but my mother just flew Spirit from Newark to Ft. Lauderdale. She hasn't stopped talking about how wonderful it was - the service, it was on time. Apparently, it is worth taking to save the money.

Hi Caryn, My husband and I flew Sunjet 4 years ago and it was the worst. There was a mix up with our baggage - we were flying to Orlando, but the plane was flying on to Tampa - the girl at the counter checked our baggage to Tampa...we noticed what she had done before we got on the plane so we told her about her mistake. Her reply was...OOps, ha, ha! We were told that we would have to wait for the plane to fly to Tampa before we could get our luggage....and we were still in Newark! When we got to Orlando, we found an airport worker (who didn't work for Sunjet) who was kind enough to hold the plane while HE looked for our luggage....it was bit frustrating, especially the response from the ticketer. We also found the plane to be very crowded, noisy and HOT. The only thing I can say is that this was four years ago - maybe they've had a chance to improve their services and conditions...If I had to fly them again? Definitely no.

I have flown Spirit Airlines on Cleveland-Atlantic City roundtrips twice. I was impressed with the clear safety instructions provided to me while seated in an exit row. The information card had clear, understandable photos, not vague drawings.

Thanks for the replies so far. I won't be checking any baggage so I won't have to worry about that. I'm also always cold, so I don't mind being hot for 2 1/2 hours. I'm more concerned with safety, reliability, timeliness, etc. Anyone else with some insight?
