Enjoy your stay and take in the many sights while downtown KC Plaza. There are great Rib joints to eat at too, if that appeals to you. Map your way out ahead of time so you are familiar to the exits you need to get to. It should be no trouble at all, just be patient and enjoy the lights. I cna't wait to go back soon.
Was only there a couple of times for the lights- very nice but oh so many people. My daughter lived on the Plaza at the time so we only had to walk home.
Don't understand why people bring dogs and baby strollers to such an event -
One year- long ago- when there was an energy saving campaign going on- they did not keep the lights on all day- so they switched them on every night - that was great- no crowds- you could go down every night and see them
Anyway, enjoy- you gotta do it once in a lifetime!
Dress really warmly. The high that day will be 35 degrees, but by the time they turn on the lights it will be much colder. Have fun.
If you walk around for a little bit after the lighting, you should be able to get out of the area in 15-20 minutes
