Planning Maui trip in the stocking....we want to whale watch...where is the best place to watch?

I can't decide between finding an inexpensive ocean front condo and we can sit and whale watch, walk on beach, cook meals....OR~~

Do Priceline and stay at Sheraton/Westin/Hyatt. Perk: nice
pools, room service, maid service.
All meals out which will be more
expensive (but less work!)

We have been to the Sheraton+Hyatt and wonder if we should go the condo route.

Decisions decisions!

Time: Jan 19-26. Ocean front in Wailea will be pricey. Ocean front up north will be more reasonable, but will it be too windy or rainy?

Any thoughts or ideas?

I like nice places, and look for bargains.

I used Freq. flyer miles and have not booked accommodations.

I want to surprise husband with a "whale watching" trip to Maui in his Christmas stocking!

Thanks in advanced! Need thoughts on whale watching...

aloha!

We have done both. We were at Sheraton Maui last year and will be again this year. We've also stayed at Kaanapali Royale and Maui Eldorado, which are both up on the hillside, a five minute walk to Whaler's Village. There is definitely something to be said for not having to eat three meals a day in restaurants for a week, but having a beautiful beach and snorkeling right outside the door is a plus. Not much help, huh?

We took the Pacific Whale Foundation whale watching boat out of Lahaina and it was great.

No matter what you decide, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

yes, there are pluses to both!

We liked our ocean view at the Sheraton, but at the Hyatt we were
"garden view".

I guess we will have to do a condo on the beach further up north. I am not interested in the south area. Kiehl (sp?) seems too congested and the other area further south is out of our price range for ocean front.

Thanks.

I might just do both and split the stay, condo 4 nights, hotel 3.

It's going to be down in the 20's where I live, so Maui sounds pretty good right now!

Thanks, It looks quiet down at that end.

I don't see many posts about that hotel, did you like it?

Hotel prices were coming down
and got a week in Kaanapali at
the Westin for $152 per night.
Priceline. this is a great
rate! We loved being at the
Hyatt and Sheraton, so this will
be fine.

We can hitch a ride on a
Whale watching tour!

I'm super excited!

I just made up a "brochure" and gave it to my husband as a surprise
Christmas gift: a trip to Maui!

He's really happy!

I booked it by bidding on Priceline
for 4 days in late January, and after winning my bid it allowed me to add 3 more nights for my week long stay.

If you haven't done priceline, read up on it a lot first before doing it!

I checked sidestep.com first to gauge prices and started Low.

YES, It's a great rate!
