Places to stay in TX...?

We are visiting Texas in mid November, and are looking for recommended areas to stay in the cities listed below, there will be 2 of us (25yrs) and we have a car as we are roadtripping around the State.

Houston
San Antonio
Dallas

Any neighbourhoods worth visiting or hotel recommendations would be great. We are looking for cheap and cheerful! Happy to stay in hostels if they have parking for example.

Budget? In dollars (US version, since you're not from the US).

Without that, "cheap" is a bit meaningless.

We stayed 6wks last winter in the Montrose area of Houston and loved it! We have been to HOuston often as our son lives there but we enjoyed Montrose the best of all. It is an active community represented by all ethnic groups, straight and gay. Great restaurants, pleasant people. We rented thru AirB&B but I would also look at VRBO.

Montrose is known as a very diverse area of Houston, specifically many, many gay establishments. If you are looking for great night life and enjoy beer, you must go to the Flying Saucer. Great shopping is in the Galleria District. Also research Rice Village and the Museum District. You can do the zoo. You will want to eat at House of Pies which is in the Galleria area. For a nice but pricy steak, try Papa's Steakhouse. Actually, all the "Papa's" chains are good if you look it up. Houston should have some really great rates on hotels depending where you want to stay and what you want to do. Being 25, you might also enjoy staying in The Woodlands which is about 30-45 minutes north of Houston on I-45 which is the highway you will take to the Dallas area. The shopping is amazing and much more manageable than the massive Galleria area and the night life is trendy. It is upscale but there are many hotels right there on 45 that should be affordable.

San Antonio......I would definitely stay on the River Walk or somewhere close to it if your budget allows.

I don't know much about Dallas but the Cowboys stadium is AMAZING. However, Dallas is a pretty pricey place.

Good luck and enjoy your Texas trip.

You've only mentioned larger cities but if you have time and want to see country, Texas Hill Country is worth a few days: http://travel.nationalgeographic.com...xas-road-trip/
