places to stay in Seward and Homer
Okay, my son and I are going to Seward and Homer for 7 days. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to stay? We will be fishing and enjoying the scenery.
Thank you,
Kitty

we stayed at the Alaskan Suites- very nice cabins with fabulous views - each cabin has a kitchen and there is a complimentary continental breakfast in am. Places were clean and comfortable.
Check into a trip to Halibut Cove- we did the evening trip with dinner ( you have to go by boat) at the Saltry- one of the highlights of the trip.
If you decide to take a flight bear viewing - you can sometimes get 1/2 off the day before if the flights are not full- wish I had known. My cousin paid full fare but a couple on board were doing the 1/2 price thing
I really liked Homer!!

In Seward we liked the Holiday Inn Express. Light breakfast was included, which was nice. Had a room overlooking the harbor, which was great (as opposed to overlooking the parking lot and main road). That was the only place we stayed at in Seward so can't compare to the rest though.
In Homer Land's End is famous for its location at the end of the spit and we always at least eat lunch there once, but it's kind of expensive. If you are catching a fishing boat from the harbor then it's pretty convenient.
Place I liked best was Ocean Shores, which is right on the bay and has kitchenettes in the room and was very quiet, though not especially charming. Also had encrypted internet service included, one of the few times I've ever found this anywhere while traveling.
Also stayed at the Best Western Bidarka Inn a couple of times before discovering the Ocean Shores. Right on the main road so a bit noisy and some of the rooms are above the bar, which is REALLY noisy, but in general this was OK.
Might check Homer hotels on tripadvisor.com as there are at least a dozen places I don't know about ... Ocean Shores is rated # 2, Land's End # 3 and Bidarka # 6 out of 11 that were reviewed, which sounds about right to me after staying at each place.

It's been quite a few years since we were there, but we loved the Ocean shores. I've referred several friends over the years and they all liked it as well.
The buildings sort of cascade down the hill, so despite the office being on the main road, the rooms are very quiet. The are very simple, but clean. Some have kitchenettes, some don't. You can walk down the cliff to the beach and fish right there! (don't forget your license).
