Will be attending an afternoon performance at the Fox in a few weeks. Have eaten at the Biltmore across the street. Wondered if anyone could recommend other good places for lunch that are a short walk from the theater.

Baronda is a nice little Italian place nearby -- think it's at Peachtree and 3rd.
Nothing fancy, but good.
The Vortex (burgers) and Gordon Biersch are a few blocks further down Peachtree.
How about directly across the street at The Georgian Terrace. We usually cut it too short on time to eat there and end up at a little sandwich shop just in the next block..It's good...Will post the name when I think of it....
Gorin's is the name of the sandwich shop I was trying to remember.
Sabrina, we will be there on a Saturday afternoon in a couple of weeks also...I think this time we will try to get there early enough to walk down to The Pleasant Peasant or if we can't get in there go to Mick's.
Or, maybe Baronda that olivia suggested..we've tried to get in there also, but cut our time too short.
Baraonda is fantastic and right next door. We used to live a few blocks downhill and made that hike many, many times. http://www.baraondaatlanta.com/
We have eaten at The Georgian Terrace, not the Biltmore. Would like to try one of other places. Thanks for all your suggestions.
Pleasant Peasant is pretty good. You can also find a coupon in the Entertainment book for there and Micks.
What type of restaurant is Micks? IS it suitable for children?? WHat else is in the general vicinty of the Marquee?/ Thanks
mommybryant, I'm confused now. You asked what's near the Marquis - as in Marriott downtown? You DO know that downtown is not really close to the Fox? It's walkable, I guess, but not really close. If you want restaurants nearby, let us know and we'll answer that question.
Now...near the Fox. I happened to be reading the tripadvisor reviews of Atlanta restaurants and was very surprised that Baroanda is one of the top restaurants in the entire city. I love it for the Fox. Great pasta and pizza - and everything on the menu is good.
Mick's has a little bit of everything on their menu and would be good for kids. It is (or was) the medium priced option of the Peasant group of restaurants. The Peasant restaurant next door is very good as well.
By the way, the pilot boutique hotel for Holiday Inn is across the street from the Fox - Hotel Indigo. Looks like it's their version of a W style hotel. It's in the old Days Inn building just next to the Georgia terrace. It would be a good option to consider on future trips to Atlanta for Fox events.
Mommybryant, I saw your post over on Tripadvisor about the Marquis and replied. The Mick's near the Fox is not the same Mick's as the one near the Marquis. They are two different locations of the same chain. Hope that helps!
IMHO, Mick's has really gone down over the years. Quality of food and service is not much to write about. A special day deserves a special meal. Go for Baronda or the hotels previous posters have mentioned!
one thing to mention about baraonda is that they do not take reservations, so you'll have to brave the crowds--i haven't ever been there for lunch so i don't know how much of a problem it is...for dinner, its our unquestioned restaurant of choice before attending anything at the fox, and as long as we're there 90 minutes ahead of time we can be as leisurely as we like...
one word of advice: go for the pizza--baraonda's pasta is alright, but the pizza is what makes it truly extraordinary & you can't go wrong no matter which one you choose (or at least i never have)...
You can always try Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles for something different...if you go try the the combo(who would have thunk it...chicken and waffles are great together).
Thanks for the info to my question about Micks. We are staying at the Marquee on the 4th and celebrating at Centennial Park. (This was a Priceline hotel pick). A friend had mentioned that there was a Mick's somewhere downtown that would be a good choice to eat at for the kids. So that is why I asked. I am from out of town and have never been to the Fox, so probably should not have confused the issue by adding to this post about the Fox. But that is why I asked and I appreciate your comments. So I will have to keep looking for a casual restaurant that will make all happy on the 4th. We will only be in town that one day and a half. Happy 4th to everyone.
There's a Mick's downtown and a Mick's near the Fox. They aren't that far from one another via a car, but would be a hike with kids. That was the source of confusion.

Just next to Mick's is Mama Ninfa's. MN originated in Houston - and supposedly Mama invented the fajita. She found a way to make inexpensive skirt steak appealing to her family - and then others enjoyed it too. If you like Mexican (or actually Tex-Mex) the kids may like the festive mood of MN better than Mick's.
If you had a sitter, one of my favorite "grown up" restaurants is across the street - Dailey's. Actually, Dailey's is (or was) one of the upscale restaurants in the Peasant group and Mick's is the casual restaurant.
If you just wanted to do dessert, the dessert bar at Dailey's is out of this world.
Have a blast at Centennial Park (no pun intended - sorry, it's late).
By the way, you can walk through the Peachtree Center "mall" from the Marriott Marquis toward the International door of Peachtree Center. Just as you exit the mall, Mick's is on your left and Mama Ninfa's in on the right (facing International).
There's a Hard Rock Cafe right there at the corner of International and Peachtree - at least there was the last time I looked. There was a Planet Hollywood across the street but it has closed. My kids loved both.
I loved finding out I have exactly the same hand size as Joanne Woodward! (Planet Hollywood wall of handprints
