Places to canoe in southeast Michigan?
My daughter and her friends would like to spend the day canoeing this Friday (May 21st). They aren't experienced canoers, but are strong swimmers. Can anyone suggest a good place? We live in a northern suburb of Detroit and they'd like to find somewhere no more than an hour away. Thanks for your help.

Try the Huron River in Ann Arbor

OR Milford at this web site:

The Huron would be a good river for them in either location and both are pretty.

How much rain have you gotten in the Dtroit area in the last week? In the Midland area where I live, the rivers are all very high because of the rain. It is not a good situation for inexperienced canoers. If they still want to go, make sure they WEAR life jackets. It is not enough to just have them with you. My husband and I had a mishap on a very fast river up north many years ago. There was no time to put on the life jacket and I was in an area with water over my head.
