Topping for rizzo
The Nomad on North May Ave.
I haven't had the opportunity to search for really good local pies, so I'll defer to a colleague at about.com:
http://okc.about.com/od/restaurants/tp/okctoppizza.htm
I can say the local favorite is Hideaway, but do consider Sophabella's and the rest.
What kind of pizza are you looking for? Deep dish? Tradition or gourmet?
My favorite is Bellini's at Penn and 63rd. Casual local Italian restaurant. Pizza is thin crust with gourmet toppings, if you want.
Hideaway on Western north of 63rd is the traditional standard. Not as good as the original in Stillwater (O State U) but its still good. Get the fried mushrooms, too!
Nomad II on May is too greasy for me but there are long-time followers. And haven't tried Sophabella's either.
My actual favorite is Othellos in Edmond, but rizzo asked for OKC....
Hideaway is my favorite local place.
Gaetano's is good NY style, as is Falcone's
Sophabella's is good as well.
Sophabella's is overrated, the pizza isnt all that. Its owner is from Chicago, and the pizza they serve is nothing close to Chicago style pizza. Not to mention they are pricey and what you get isnt worth the price you paid.
A better idea would be to try New York style pizza. I forget the name, but there is a small New York style pizzeria place in Norman, Oklahoma (about 17 miles south of Oklahoma City)
This pizzeria is on Ash street, and is directly across from the University of Oklahoma. The biggest problem is trying to find a place to park. Its very crowded, and the University was designed back in the 1800's, and so that says a lot about how unwell-planned the streets are.
But a good place to park is directly behind the restaurant. You may want to get your pizza to go, or eat it fast, as Norman police are sticklers and wont think twice about giving you a fat parking fine stuck on your windshield.
But, it is the best pizza to be had in Oklahoma..so good, that while eating it, you will momentarily forget that you are even in Oklahoma. The owner of the place is straight out of Brooklyn, NY..so you know youre getting the real deal.
I need to correct the distance from OKC to Norman as it is not 17 miles - its around 40 miles. And its about a 40 minute drive depending what part of OKC you're coming from and traffic.
Is it Othello's you're referring to on Buchanan next to Asp St?
Also, there is a new pizza place on Western around 50th called "The Wedge" and is super thin crust and delicious.
I can get from Lindsay Street in Norman (one of the most southern streets in Norman) to N.E. 122nd in Oklahoma City (one of the most northern streets) in less than 40 minutes (and yes doing the speed limit). Unless youre talking about driving in rush hour traffic or taking some alternate route, like Hwy 77 (which few actually do), I dont see how youre coming up with 40 minute drive times between the two cities. Most can get from Main st in Norman to N.E. 23rd st. in OKC in 17 minutes, give or take. Unless youre referring to some extreme part of Norman and some extreme part of Okc. That could be the case, since both are large cities in geographical size.
oh sorry, forgot to add this link. it shows the distance between sooner mall in norman and the state capitol building on 23rd street,.shows the distance is 20 miles with a 24 minute drive time, courtesy of mapquest.. have a look.

I live out by Mercy and drive time from there to Campus Corner in Norman is 45 minutes door to door and I have in my time been called a lead foot.
What is the name of the pizza place? Sounds great!
the name of the pizza place escapes me, but the front entrance faces the south, and is directly across from the Univ of Oklahoma. I want to say its called something like "New York Pizza",.i could be wrong. Youll find it, its on Asp street (Ash street?)..a heavily traveled street. Its operated by a man from Brooklyn, his name is Greg, be sure to ask for him by name, he is really cool.
