Phuket...What are your thoughts?

We are thinking about traveling to Phuket in May (all adults). A few questions:

1. What is there to do?
2. Is May a good time to go?

Thanks!

I was going to rave about their Kang-Ka-Ree and Pad Thai-- but I see you're talking about Phuket, Thailand, not the Phuket Thai restaurant near me....

Re-post on the Asia board. Happy traveling!!

By the way: "It's pronounced Poo-keet. Don't ask why!" (That's the restaurant's marketing slogan)

rjw- you are in Long Beach right? My family lives near there and when we travel down there we are always looking for a good Thai restaurant. Where is this one located?

That's right. This one is right on Second Street in Belmont Shore-- can't remember the cross street, but it's a few blocks east of Granada. It's cheap and yummy, and really isn't that all one could ask for in Thai eateries?

Have you tried Bangkok Four at South Coast Plaza yet? I've heard great things (Zagat Guide raves), but haven't been myself....

I've been to Phuket (poo ket) three times so far, and always enjoy it. I've not been in May, but have gone in June/July/August and it was rainy a lot. I've also gone at Christmas/New Years time and the weather was great!

What to do? Enjoy the beach. Ride elephants. Take a boat to Phi Phi Island. Shop shop shop. Eat great food. Rent a jeep and drive around the island.

Check the Asia forum for lots more information.

While I'd second the recommendation to repost on the Asia board, let me give you a quick answer.

May can be fairly rainy. We went in April and the rainy season begins towards the end of that month. I checked www.worldclimate.com and May gets about 14 inches of rain, their 3rd wettest month.

In terms of activities, there are plenty. The Phi Phi Islands & Phang Na Bay make for great day trips. The island has great beaches and plenty of good outdoor activities.

You will get a more thorough response on the Asia board, though.
