Phillips >crab cakes

We have not been to Ocean city MD. for quite a few years, and we were wondering.. does Phillips on the boardwalk still have great food, especially their crab cakes? Or does anyone have a better suggestion.. we are huge seafood lovers! Thanks all !

Philips is still a great place to eat. Other good seafood places are Fagers (fine dining side), Harrison's Harborwatch (at the inlet), Harpoon Hannah's, The Hobbit, and BJ's

I have never eaten at Phillips in Ocean City...but I have in other locations and I have to say that I really hope that Phillips is not the best that OC has to offer!!

Phillips has taken the lead in importing shellfish from southeast Asia. It surrendered its position as the best many years ago. If you want authentic crabckes in Maryland, go to a restaurant that uses Chesapeake crabs.

Phillips is now a mass producer of frozen food. There crab cakes are available at Walmart & Sam's Club. When I was a kid, Phillips was THE place for seafood in Ocean City.
Sorry I don't kow where to tell you to go for good seafood. I haven;t been to OC in years.

For really finer dining I suggest you take a ride to Rehoboth.

Phillips is a Maryland small franchise restaurant that serves an inferior crab cake. Go to a top-flight restaurant like Harpoon Hannah's or the Hobbitt. Better yet, take a side trip to Oxford and have the crab cakes at the Robert Morris Inn. The best crab cakes on the Eastern Shore are cooked at the local restaurants by people who know what they are doing. Consult Whitey Schmidt's Web site.

Oxford is about 1 1/2 hours from Ocean City. Whitey Schmidt's web site is bluecrabguru.com but I have not been able to download it this morning. Either his site is temporarily down or Whitey might have had a very recent demise. He's about 67 years of age. He lives in the Maryland waterman's town of Crisfield, which is worth visiting. Crisfield is within an hours drive of Ocean City. The definitive waterman's town, Smith Island, lies about fifteen miles off of Crisfield.

Whitey Schmidt's web site, bluecrabguru.com, is up and running. Melrose, you can ask him his opinion using his web site. I am sure he'll give you better advice than anyone.
