phila-new haven

We have to be in New haven at 8:30 am on a Friday in August. We can leave by 8pm Thursday eve(after work). If we get tired is there a good location to stop? Thanks -

Traffic should be pretty light by then. There are service areas on the NJTP, as well as on I-95 after you get into CT.

Just drive directly to your hotel in New Haven on Thursday night.

rkkwan has it right, it's not that bad a drive esp leaving at 8 from phila. you'll be in new haven 2 or 3 hours tops.

FYI, mapquest shows Phila-New Haven to be 3 hours, 19 minutes. Allowing for one stop, I would give it 3 3/4 hours.

I've done this ride many times although not recently, and 3 3/4 hours sounds about right to me. Unless you're people who get tired very early, I agree that it's definitely worth it to just drive all the way and wake up in New HAven in the morning.

I also have done this trip many times, going to school in Phila and living in CT. It should take you about 3 hours to get to New Haven that time of night. If you leave before/during rush hour, it can take much longer. It is definately doable w/out stops.

Agree with the others, and would add that it might help to listen to 880 AM (provided they're not broadcasting baseball) or one of the other AM news stations to hear traffic updates - you never know what you'll be dealing with in regards to the GW bridge or 95 in Connecticut, so it's good to have looked at a map in advance and plot out taking the T-Z and maybe even the Merritt Parkway to cut around any possible traffic/construction. Have a safe trip!
