Peconic, Long Island

Does anyone know of any motels and/or hotels in the area that they can recommend?
Friends of mine are thinking about having a small wedding at a vineyard out there but are worried about the lodging of the guests.
Do you have any recommendations or places to avoid? Anything would be helpful. Thanks.

Check out Riverhead. There used to be a Best Western there. That would put you 15-20 minutes rom Peconic.

I was looking for something much closer.
I don't think they are going to want people to stay that far away or for after the wedding want people drinking and driving at all.

Unfortunately can't provide any personal recos but found this website with some info

http://www.northforkweddings.com/hot...s-resorts.html

In general, the area has mostly inns and/or b & bs. Don't consider Shelter Island (several places listed on that website) because you have to take a ferry to get there! Charming but impractical. I'm sure the vineyard has recos though.

I faced this exact same problem when planning my wedding, being from Mattituck (a stone's throw from Peconic). B&B's were basically the only choice. The new Inn at East Wind is nice but almost in Riverhead. My sister was married at the East Wind and they did a lovely job. There is the Mattituck Motel. Greenport has more choice - the Greenporter Hotel and Spa, the Silver Sands and the Sunset Hotel. I had friends stay at the Sunset Hotel and said it was nice. I would definitely check with the winery.

Also check:

http://www.liwines.com/biz.ihtml

for the Long Island Wine Council's list of lodgings. There are a few B&B's right in Peconic (Harvest Inn, Home Port B&B). There is a place in Jamesport or Aquebogue that I am drawing a blank on the name of but it is awful and should be avoided. Maybe someone else can help with the name - it is on the right side of the Main Road (Rt 25) as you head East. Also my friends stayed at the Sound View Inn, not the Sunset. The Sound View has a good restaurant.
