Pearl Harbor Day Trip
My husband and I will be in Hawaii from 11/25/2015 through 12/7/2015 and traveling between Kauai and Maui on December 2, 2015.
Has anyone every flown from Kauai to Oahu.... done a day trip to Pearl Harbor and flown on to Maui the same day/evening? Do you think if we took a tour this would be "doable".... or renting a car and doing it on our own?
Thanks.... I've gotten a lot of advice from this site for European trips but this will be our first time to Hawaii and it seems even more daunting to me than planning Europe

Pearl Harbor is wedged (and much less enjoyable imo) by late morning, and the interisland flight makes it tough to get there before the crowds arrive. If at all possible, fly into Oahu the night before and get an early start to Pearl Harbor the next morning.

We've already tied down our accommodations in Kauai and Maui so staying a night in Oahu is not very feasible. I think Pearl Harbor is really close to the airport... like 15 minutes??
Thanks!
Thanks!

While I don't like to link other travel forums on this forum, I don't want to re-write the book either.
Baggage storage at HNL:

Advanced Reservations for USS Arizona Memorial. You don't need advanced reservations for any of the other three Pearl Harbor museums, USS Missouri, USS Bowfin and Pacific Aviation Museum:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g2....Memorial.html
You have to register before you can make online reservations. So do that well before you are able to make online so when tours become available (two months in advance) for the day you want to go, make your reservations ASAP.
Pearl Harbor museums:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g2...r.Museums.html
Make your reservations for about 2 1/2 hours after your flight arrives on Oahu. You have to pick up your tickets at the Visitors Center at least 1 hour prior to your tour.
That gives you 1 1/2 hours to pick up your bags, check them in to the baggage company (if you can't check them all the way to Maui), rent a car (or take a cab or The Bus) & get to the Visitors Center.
If all you want to do is see the four Pearl Harbor museums, then take a cab or The Bus.
If you only want to see USS Arizona Memorial and maybe one other Pearl Harbor museum, rent a car. You'll have time to tour part of the island. Include National Cemetery of the Pacific.

Order the free travel planners for Hawaii & each island:

Order the free Air Maui map. It is really nice:
