Looking for a park so the kids can stretch their legs during our road trip. We're going to be passing through Louisville from Ohio on our way to Nashville. We'll be taking 71 to 265 to 65. Are there any small parks near the interstate where the kids could get out of the car and run around for a bit. We also don't want to spend a lot time looking for one and getting lost in the process! I found McNeely and Floyd's Part searching online. Don't know anything about them. Thanks.

McNeely is not good--it's a residential area and not really near the interstate.
The welcome centers and rest stops are pretty nice. They mostly have picnic tables and benches and green space for children and dogs to run. There is quite a nice one maybe 15 miles south of Louisville on I-65.
There is also an very large arboretum called Bernheim Forest at the Bardstown exit on I-65 just down from the rest stop. It's very nice and quite close to the highway. There is a charge per car (I think $5) on weekends, but it is free on weekdays.
Sorry if you've already done your trip and this info is too late... There is a state park that you will pass as you drive through the outskirts of Louisville. Soon after you turn onto 265 from 71 you will see an exit for "Westport Road". You would want to go east on Westport Road and then follow the signs for Tom Sawyer State Park which will be on the left. There are some walking areas, playground, etc. It is probably 3 minutes from the interstate.

Why not get off the interstate highway and drive the older US highways occasionally. That way you will pass thru the smaller towns. I am sure there will be many places including state and city parks to stop and stretch.
