Parking in Cincinnati

Jump to last reply

Is there parking near the amtrak station? Is it long term? I need about ten days for a cross country trip by amtrak. Is the parking relatively safe? Would it be better to use long-term parking at the airport and shuttle to and from town? Thank you for your advice.

Cincinnati - Union Station, OH (CIN)
    1301 Western Ave.
    Cincinnati Union Terminal
    Cincinnati, OH 45203

The Amtrak part (tickets & check-in)of the station is open limited times (generally late evening to early morning).

There is a OMNIMAX movie theatre, a small gift shop and a child's discovery type place that are open other times (day to evening) at the station (old train station that has been converted for other things since passenger train travel from the station is very light compared to the old days).

There is paid parking at a very large open air lot (think mall parking lot). As far as safe goes - overnight it is probably mostly deserted (in a not heavy pedestrian traffic area).

It is not downtown in a NYC Grand Central Station kind of way. Think (downtown)factory/mixed type of area, visible from an expressway kind of place.

    From the website -

Originally built in 1933 as the Union Terminal train station, the building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Union Terminal stands on a prominent location one mile northwest of the city center. In the late 1980s, the building was renovated and then reopened as Cincinnati Museum Center in 1990.

Info from calling the Cincinnati Museum Center

    PARKING $5.00 DAY - 24 HR DAY

    LONG PARKING IS ALLOWED

PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE IS OPEN 24 HRS
PUBLIC SAFETY WILL KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR VEHICLE IF YOU LEAVE AN ENVELOPE WITH YOUR VEHICLE LICENCE #, LOCATION WHERE IT IS PARKED IN THE LOT AND PAYMENT FOR THE # OF DAYS YOU ARE PARKING.

PARKING LOT ITSELF IS NOT ATTENDED 24 HRS. IT IS ONLY ATTENDED WHEN THERE ARE DAYTIME/EVENING EVENTS.

PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE IS INSIDE THE STATION TO THE LEFT.

The airport is nowhere near the train station. It is accross the river in KY off an expressway loop area. CVG is located 13 miles south of Cincinnati in Northern Kentucky (from airport website).

Transfers from CVG to the train station are avail from Airport Executive Shuttle.

Shuttles to Downtown Cincinnati and Covington cost $15 one-way and $25 round-trip. Rates to other locations vary. Call 24 hours in advance to guarantee a reservation. Walk-up service is also available, however. For more information visit the Airport Executive Shuttle desk in any of our baggage claim areas or call (859) 261-8841 or (800) 990-8841.

I called them transfer to the train station is by private car service only and costs private $67.50 one way. They said to call ahead for this service.

Parking at the airport - $12 day at the airport covered garage, $7 day off airport location (it is in a fenced open air lot in a primarily deserted area).

    Taxis service Call (859) 767-3260 .

Most of the info above has been copied and pasted from the train station and airport websites.

So, where to park? When does your train get back to the station? Do you have any reason to go back to the airport after your trip?

Will you fret over having your vehicle parked in a deserted city area at night? Is it very desirable and stealable?

I have parked all three places (never over night at the train station). It's your decision.

DISCLAIMER - please verify all above info from websites. I tried to give correct info. By the way, I do not expect taxis to be waiting at the train station when you arrive there. Plan ahead, if you don't want to wait for one.

    Have a great trip.
