Parking at 7am at Washington Mall

We have a White House Tour scheduled on a Tuesday at 7:30 AM. Any suggestions on where to park? I assume at 7 AM, that parking will be available. Thanks...

The Mall area is at least a six block walk to the White House. The closest Mall parking would be on Madison Drive between 9th and 14th streets (park as close to the 14st end as possible and walk the six blocks to the White House.

Mall parking is limited to THREE HOURS and early morning is a prime time for enfocing this limit (to keep office workers from parking there all day).

It is best to take Metro to the White House. Take either a Blue or Orange train to either Farragut West (17th st. exit) or McPhearson Sqaure (Vermont Ave. exit). These two are equidistant from the White House exits.

While you may find 2-hour street parking nearby, many of the streets will also be closed to parking because of traffic. If you are going to be spending any additional time beyond your tour, parking is going to be a big hassle with having to feed the meter.

Follow Bardo's advice and take the Metro. The area around the Mall and White House are confusing to drive around, even for someone who lives here.

There are parking garages in the office buildings - at least on the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the White House. I tried to find a website for one or two, but was unsuccessful. I don't honestly know when the daily parking begins in these lots. I had to get downtown today (a Saturday), and my garage was not yet open for daily parking at 8:45. So I wonder how early they open on weekdays - although 7:00 seems about right.

Metro might be easier...

Go Metro!

That was both a cheer and a suggestion.

Or try yahoo maps

http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result
?addr=1600+pennsylvania+ave
&csz=washington%2C+dc&country=us

(you must paste them back togeather, or use: http://tinyurl.com/rzps5 )

then click the "travel & transportation" button in the "Smart View" box, then check "parking" and you'll see parking nearby.

I'd trust the Metro schedule more than I would the map.

We went on a tour of the White House last weekend. We parked at the Willard InterContinental Hotel located on F St between 14th and 15th Sts. It's valet parking and will cost you $20 for 4 hours or $28 any longer than that. Walk through the hotel and out its front door, turn right, cross the street and you will be standing at the White House.
