Park and ride train into New York

We'll be driving to New York City from central Pennsylvania in August. We'd like to park our car somewhere safe for a few days and take a train into the city. Any suggestions about how to go about doing this? Thanks very much.

One obvious choice is to park at Newark Airport and take the train from there. Cheapest/most convenient? Not sure.

I've parked free on the street at Princeton before and taken the train to NYC but only for the day, not sure if you can overnight.

Using the NJTransit website as suggested, I found Princeton Junction and Edison lots that allow overnight parking and charge $3 or $4 per day.

Gotta be cheaper than Newark Airport.

I would probably go with Princeton Junction too. I wasn't aware that they offered overnight parking.

Another option is to drive into Manhattan and park at an iconparking.com garage near your hotel. Saves dragging luggage onto trains and buses. Parking at Newark + transportation to/from Manhattan can be the same as parking in Manhattan depending on how many you are.

or,,,,stay at the Travel Inn on W 42nd St and parking for guests is free. They also have a pool for guests. The hotel is close to Times Square and lots of restaurants as well as close to transportation around the city.

Hope this helps and have a great time while you are here.

I've parked at Princeton Junction overnight many times. My only caution is that on weekdays, the lot gets parked up very early. If you are traveling on Saturday or Sunday though, this is a great way to go. If I am going into the city on a weekday, I park in a garage across from the Trenton station. You may park there overnight as well.

If you are in southcentral PA, would you consider an alternative that I've used from many times (I live near Harrisburg)?

Bieber bus from Kutztown.

There's a bus from Kutztown to NYC (Port Authority terminal, near Times Square) about once per hour all day, until fairly late in the evening. It makes only two stops, one outside Allentown, near Dorney Park, and another outside Bethlehem off I-78. Free parking at the Kutztown terminal. Buses are clean and comfortable; luggage storage bins below - long-distance-type, not city-type busses. Relatively inexpensive compared to train from Central PA; little concern about security of vehicle; avoids you driving the busy NJ highways.
