Had you posted this on another board, you'd be admonished for violating the terms of your rental car agreement, and/or trespassing on private property, and/or placing yourselves at risk of having your rental car broken into and any valuables or luggage stolen. But non this forum, as Songdoc wrote, beautiful photos, and thanks for sharing.

My adult son and I walked there 10 years ago. There were not guided tours that I was aware of back then. But, we were fortunate enough to meet some haoles (geographers) who worked on the island and they offered a ride back in their huge suburban. I was secretly SO glad!
They wouldn't even take the money we offered. Very nice guys!
Either way, it was SO worth the walk and the very bumpy/slow ride! Your photos/video really does it justice! Thanks for posting.

Dept. of Hawaiian Home Lands owns the land.
You can't drive your rental car (you'd be foolish to, anyway), but you can rent a 4 WD, even though the signs still say kapu.
70+ year old DH loped it in 40 minutes each way (runner), but I won't go without a ride, and my back can't take an open truck bed, so I'll just enjoy these gorgeous pics until my next attempt in a Jeep!
Glad you include your tech details.

@olesouthernbelle - Thank you Our first visit was 4 years back.. our guide even collected some sand in an empty water bottle from a different section away from the beach. The sand was greener than at the beach. Some of the other tourists took some home but we didn't as it is widely considered bad luck...

@sylvia3 - Thank you
