Palms Place Las Vegas with kids... bad idea?

also, if you think it is a bad idea... any ideas of where the room rates combined with cabana rental are reasonable for this level of quality?

A) I've never heard of Palms Place, so I am guessing it is not exactly well situated, location-wise. B) I have kids exactly the same age & would not take them to Vegas (& they are very well-traveled, Europe, the Caribbean, etc.) C) the topic of kids in Vegas has been discussed ad nauseum on here, you may want to look up some of those posts as well as seek out a new vacation destination.

We are just flying into Vegas for the start of our Utah National Park family vacation. The kids love to swim and it will be a long trip from Boston, so we figured we'd stay a couple of nights for some R&R and swimming before making the 5 hour drive to Escalante, UT.

The Palms Place is a mile from the stip, no gaming... the location is fine for us - we certainly don't need to walk around on the strip in 100+ weather... really just looking for the most reasonably priced nice hotel factoring in the cabana rental. This certainly fits the bill, just seems less geared for families so I am looking for feedback from those who know the hotel.

Also, I have looked up the kids in Vegas topic and yes realize it is not a vacation destination... it is just a starting point for us.

Anyone with actual knowledge of this place care to comment?

We never stayed there but did visit the facility. IMHO, the place is geared towards young adults who like to play and party hard.

It all depends on what you're comfortable with. The bikinis can get very skimpy but probably not too much different from many other hotel pools.

The only suggestion I would have for you is to call the hotel before making reservations. I don't remember seeing any kids but we did not arrive there until early evening so perhaps that was the reason. Just ask if they have any restrictions with kids.

thanks for your reply. I called palms place twice and asked about bringing kids. both times was assured that while they are not specifically catering to families that we will be made to feel welcome. I said that it would not be fun for us to feel that our kids were annoying people. She responded that that would definitely not be the case.

I think I will hold on to the reservation and just keep my eyes open for something comparable but more family oriented. Am trying to keep the whole budget in check for our ten day vacation... I know the kids will love a "pool" experience and the cabana, etc. prior to a more nature based experience.

--are you sure you can cancel and get your money back?? Some of those booking sites don't allow cancellations or have cancel fee.

My experience is similar to AAFF although I have no first hand experience w/Palms Place...A lot of 'action' takes place in & around the cabana areas at most pools in Vegas, which I would deem less than kid appropriate. I would keep that in mind, unless you are able to obtain some first hand feedback.

I think my instincts are telling me that this isn't the right place for us and probably there won't be many families to confirm that for me on this forum as it probably isn't a family type of place.

I have no issue spending a couple of days in Vegas with the kids, but I think there will be more family friendly options... I think there will be enough to choose from that will meet our needs... probably just not as affordable as Palms Place.

If you want to stay in the area, although I've only been out on day trips, the Red Rocks area is very nice (not to be confused w/the Red Rocks Casino).

Palms Place is a mellower version of the Palms that may not be young kid friendly but its not the spring break scene like The Palms Hotel is. The two are separated by a long walkway far enough that Palms Place is much less intense. You will have to taxi just about anywhere outside of Palms Place or The Palms but no one walks in Vegas anymore anyway. I think that you will enjoy the Cabana/room deal you have with the kids during the week. The pool is very nice/classy and as I said earlier more relaxing especially during the week. Have fun.

hmmm... 4braveheart - we will be there mid-week - maybe it will work afterall?? I am such a sucker for a deal.

also, just in case anyone is interested, I learned through all of this that at the Wynn, they will not let you reserve a cabana ahead of time. You can put your name on a waiting list and they will let you know the morning of if you cleared the list or not - a deal breaker for me and sort of silly, imo.

I have stayed at Palms Place, and it doesn't feel to me like a great place for kids ... though they might have a wonderful time, it is very trendy and mostly inhabited by the 20 something crowd. The pool isn't that big, and I didn't think the cabanas were too impressive. Rooms are nice if you like very sleek, cool modern decor.
Have you thought of the Signature? More family friendly, more pools, and attached to the huge MGM pool which you can also use. Also a better location.

I would think that one of the spendier hotels would have less twenty somethings than the moderates.

It is a shame the Wynn will not let you reserve a cabana but I'm not sure you'd need one at the Wynn. I think there are plenty of shaded areas.
