Pacific Road Trip of a Lifetime

We will traveling from SAN Francisco to Seattle eleven days. We would like to add a brief side trip to Yosemite to that. Drive hwy 1 with 1 full day in SAN fransico. We like more outdoors and national parks than cities. Thinking 2-3 days at Olympic national park. Looking for an itinerary, must sees and lodging suggestions. Thank you!

Why not start in Seattle/Olympic and end in San Francisco and Yosemite?
Your route will mostly be on US 101 if you check the map.
California Route 1 (parts are called the PCH) is south of San Francisco.
I prefer driving southbound with the ocean to my right.
The problem with Olympic NP is that there are no through roads. The Hoh rain forest will quite likely be rainy and wet.

Highway 1 follows the coast north of San Francisco for about 170 miles, starting across the Golden Gate Bridge, through Point Reyes Seashore, then from Bodega Bay with ocean views most of the way. It includes places worth stopping and staying like Mendocino. Definitely worth doing.

We are starting in SAN Francisco because air fair is $99 from KY. Actually on the way back we are staying for 3 days in Denver to avoid an overnight layover of 6 hours. Trip is planned for the second half of May. any recommendations of accomiidations along Hwy 1? Thinking of getting a VRBO in Seattle.

How much do you want to spend (or will you spend) on accommodation?

We are game for anything less than $200 a night. If we have to go more we will. We usually stay in chain hotels for some continuity but we know that is not the case on hwy 1

I'm quite fond of the Sea Gull Inn, in Mendocino, far from chain, a very Hwy 1 sort of experience. Great location, walking distance to everything in town, of course.

You may be interested in the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden, not far north of Mendocino and a very nice spot to experience vies of the ocean. Here's that chapter of my visit to the area: http://www.travelgumbo.com/blog/road...nical-garden-1

Or the nearby Cabrillo Light Station: http://www.travelgumbo.com/blog/road...ight-station-1
