We are planning a last minute trip to the Pacific Northwest. We want to do either Oregon and Seattle area or go from Seattle up to Canada. I was hoping that someone can suggest a fun trip (about 9 nights) for a family of 4 (kids 6 and 8, but great travelers). Once we pick a location I will post advice details. Is there any location your family absolutely loved. We are just not sure where to begin. Thank you.

A Visit to Charleston

As a last minute trip, unless you have proper documents for all four of you, you probably have to rule out Canada.
Much depends upon the interests of the children. Generally, it is desireable to have points of interest quite close so they can get out of the car to explore the area. How about St. Helens Volcano? the Boeing plant to see giant planes assembled? an ATV ride on the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, near Florence? seeing the cutting of timber and visiting a lumber mill at Forks? visit a cheese factory in Tillamook and enjoying an ice cream cone? or visit the Bonneville Lock and Dam with a major power plant?
Suggest you see www.drivecrosscountry.net/Places and click routes B, C, E and F for some ideas.
<Is there any location your family absolutely loved?>
Yes, several, including the Oregon Coast (Cannon Beach, Newport, Yachats, Bandon, Brookings), San Juan Island, the Columbia River Gorge (Hood River), the Olympic Peninsula (Lake Crescent Lodge), and Mt. Rainier.

Mt. St. Helens, exploring any of the old coastal forts in OR and WA, Paradise at Mt. Rainier Nat. Park, watching cheese made at Tillamook and an aircraft musuem there as well, are activities that could appeal to adults and kids.
