Outer Banks - Relaxing with fun options

Hello. I am going to the Outer Banks for my 25th wedding anniversary the week of the 22nd of September and am looking to book a location that is unpopulated and relaxing but close enough to entertainment if we want to go out at night or enjoying some of the history of this area during the day.
Thanks in advance for your help.
