We are a couple of 40 something Aussies travelling from Orlando to Washington by car later this year we have about 2 weeks .
Any info about places to see, how long it could take us, where to hire a car etc would be great thanks.

The Blue Ridge Parkway and the connected Skyline Drive can be a very scenic and relaxing way to go but be aware that they are somewhat out of the way vs. the more "usual" "straight up the coast" route between Orlando and Washington on I-95 (which can be about as boring as possible for some and as you approach Washington depending on the day of the week and time about as chaotic as it gets).

The BRP and SD have lower speed limits than the inter state highways, too.

Friends of ours recently did the Orlando-Washington trip on 95 in about 13 hours..they SAY they weren't speeding and that they "stopped several times" too...I wonder about that.

As Dukey says, the BRP is pretty far west first of all. There is not doubt that driving parts of it would be fun and beautiful, but to do it all, would drive me crazy!! Do you mean you have 2 weeks in the US total, or 2 weeks to get from Orlando to Washington.
Driving up the SC/NC coast along route 17 could be interesting for stopping to see things and less out of the way.

Suggested route: I-4 to I-95 North to I-26 in S. Carolina. I-26 to Columbia, SC get on I-77 Stop for the night in Charlotte North Carolina. Next morning continue N on I-77, cross into Virginia. A few miles into Virginia, you will come to the Fancy Gap exit. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as Roanoke. Check out all that Roanoke has to offer. Next day continue up Blue Riidge Pky.
Decide at Buena Vista or Waynesboro whether to cut to the west and get on the much faster Interstate 81 up through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. If not pressed for time, continue on up the Skyline Drive all the way to Front Royal Virginia and Interstate 66.
Coming back from Washington you could take the coastal route suggested by Gretchen if you have lots of time to get back to return the rental car to Orlando.

We used to live right off the BRP and drove it occasionally. Still, we found ourselves getting a bit carsick on the longer stretches. Just wanted to mention that; we do a fair number of winding mountain roads, and this is the only one that produces this reaction in both of us. Strange but true.

It is beautiful, though, and worth spending some amount of time on.

Depends on what you want to see. I would suggest heading up interstate 95. Stop in Charleston SC; Savannah, GA; not sure how far Asheville, NC would be out of your way...then head into VA area and visit Washington DC
