Orlando in February
Hi, my new husband and I have just booked a late deal from the UK to orlando leaving next Sunday.
Although I've been before, I have only ever been in July. I just wondered if anyone out there could advise us what to pack clothes wise? I've heard the weather can vary and can be chilly in the evening. So what would you reccommend? Sandals or boots? Trousers or shorts? A coat or just a thick jumper etc?
Also, any good places to eat? We're staying at the Rosen Shingle Creek.
Thanks, Abby.

This is probably the best time of year to be here.
Leave the coat and boots at home. Bring a light jacket and some shoes, shorts and long pants, sandals and swimsuit. This is when the weather is in transition, so there can be some wide variations. You will likely wear shorts during the day (I'm a local, so you will see me in jeans), but a light jacket is sometimes desired.
Generally, the temps range from 40's Fahrenheit at night to low 70's during the day. We might get a cold snap and light frost followed by temps in the 80's the next day.
Lots of sun, not much rain or humidity. Enjoy.

I agree. A great time to be there.
It may range from hot (89) to cool (64) = last year's Feb temps.
You'll probably be in shorts and sandals some days and long pants and tennies/sneakers with a jacket or sweatshirt. It is doubtful you'll need a coat or anything for cold weather.
Be sure to put on lots of sunscreen, every day - even cloudy ones.

Over on International drive to the west, there are many excellent restaurants. Among them, Capital Grille (steaks), Maggiano's Little Italy (Italian), Oceanaire Seafood Room (seafood) and others too numerous to mention.
I am always surprised by the number of tourists who think Longhorns, Outback, Logan's Roadhouse, etc. serve "great" steaks. To those people who say that they enjoyed their steaks there, I am sure you did, but here we consider those places mid-grade family restaurants. What makes a steak "great" (IMO, of course) is PRIME beef. Prime beef costs more. The mid-grade family restaurants do not.serve prime beef. Capital Grille on I-Drive (and Mall at Millenia) for example, does.

Hey, Orlando_Vic - did you catch the recent "Foodie" awards in the Orlando Sentinel? The restaurants that won (mostly the Readers Choice) were not what I'd call great or even good, some of them. A bit disheartening. (Sorry about the side tracking, abilou81.)

Indeed I did and I found some awful choices. There were some terrible critic's choice picks as well.
Readers' choice buffet: Golden Corral
Give me a break! fogo de chao is 10 X better.
Critic's choice Tex-Mex: Amigos Original Tex-Mex Restaurant & Cantina
Just an bad pick on so many levels. Has the critic never eaten in San Antonio or El Paso? That is what Tex-Mex is supposed to taste like, not the swill they serve at Amigos.

Orlando_Vic - and wouldn't it be great to have winners that aren't a chain (and a low-to-mid level, at that)?
I know we are a huge tourist destination, and people are coming with kids, and they want to find places to eat that are familiar...but still...
