Orlando area weather in June

Hello: This question is directed at Orlando locals. My family and I are visiting Universal Park, Orlando next week (mid week till July 2nd). I checked extended forecasts and I see a rain symbol for every day! Is this unusual or typical? I wonder if I selected the wrong month to visit.

It is a joke. 50% chance of rain. It rains across the road but not a drop on our yard. At the Daytona speedway you get a rain delay because it is raining in turn four. Don't worry about it. We had a lot of rain last week and then nothing till today. I live close to New Smyrna beach and got soaked going to the car at the grocery store but we didn't get any rain at my house. The weather for central Florida is weird.I just checked Tropical Storm Cindy, maybe a few rain bands from that but nothing to worry about. Check WESH.com They are normally more on target.

It's typical, but it won't rain all day; as Macross says, where you are standing, it may not rain at all.

I live in Tampa, and it's the same here. An entire day might be cloudy--which is actually a nice respite from the heat--and it might thunder, and yet not rain at all. Or rain incredibly hard for 15 minutes and then stop for good.

I would suggest bringing shoes you can walk in the rain in--people here favor flip flops You can buy rain ponchos at the park, if necessary. Try not to fret about getting soaked--it's part of vacationing in the tropics, and you'll dry off fast.

Enjoy!

I'm an Orlando local. According to the Orlando Sentinel, it's been 70% predicted most days and yet their rainfall totals have been zip. But, at work and at home, yes, it has rained every day. Typical for here is rain in the afternoon (often beginning earlier in June but storms not as violent), 90's and very humid.

But as NewbE and Macross noted, you can't predict if it will rain where you are. Suggest you buy disposable ponchos at Walgreens or WalMart rather than wait to buy them in the park, where they are much pricier. Just respect the lightning, we are the lightning capital of the U.S.

One more note - if you have a smartphone, download the WESH.com app for weather and enable alerts. It will let you know when rain and/or dangerous lightning are heading your way, usually about 10-30 minutes in advance. AAA also has a similar alert, but WESH is local and usually very accurate.

Yes, I agree this is typical, but make sure you're checking the weather in Lake Buena Vista or Bay Lake and not in Orlando (WDW is not in Orlando, and the weather can be different). It also changes from hour to hour. But I wouldn't be too sure that the rain won't linger. There's currently a tropical storm in LA/AL/MS that is moving east and southeast, though I strongly suspect it will pass the Orlando area before you arrive ... though keep on top of the forecasts.

True enough, Doug. It seems that more of the rain has been falling south of us, in the attractions area you mentioned.

More of the rain storms to us (west of Orlando)will likely come from the southwest moving northeast, often aligning with I-4 from Tampa to Daytona.

Doug, you're referring to TS Cindy, and she has already been downgraded to a depression and is leaving the Gulf Coast today. OP is still more than a week out and she's already gone.

SO TRUE. Good advice.

Lived in Orlando for 40 years and here is the forecast for the entire summer:

Hot with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Rarely rains all day unless we have something tropical.
