Oregon Overnight south of Crater Lake

We are from Arizona, and are heading for the Oregon coast with a stop in Fresno to see relatives. We are driving from Fresno to Crater Lake one day, and the following day we are driving around Crater Lake and heading west to the Oregon Coast--Yachats.

I'm looking for suggestions for places to stay fairly near Crater Lake on the south side. We generally look for budget places (everything from mom and pop 2-3* motels to Air B n B--definitely prefer under $100). What town/towns would you suggest we look in?

Thanks.

I have stayed at Prospect Inn in the small town of Prospect.
It's an old stage coach stop.

There are 2 types of accommodations. In the main building there is more inn type lodging, and out back, more of a motel type lodging.

They have a dining room with excellent food.

We were going to stay here http://craterlakeresort.com/ last year before we found a cancellation at Crater Lake Lodge. They have a couple of cabins under $100 a night. Aspen Inn may also be within your price range.

Good suggestions above . . . But, WHEN is the trip? You may not be able to drive around the lake. They don't expect the road to be fully open until mid-July or even later.

Good point janisj- They might have to snowshoe around the lake!

Last week someone was standing on a crust of snow at the rim, the crust broke and he fell 1000 ft into the caldera and had to be rescued by helicopter.

Sorry, I noticed I had not mentioned time. Very early August. Thanks for the suggestions for places to stay. Keep em coming. I imagine we could stay further south if it would be cheaper.

OK -- the snow should be clear from the road by then.

You could stop in Medford -- lots of inexpensive chain hotels there.
