Oprah&Trotter's: What's a good hotel for both?

We are going to see a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show in late September, and are combining this with a pilgrimage to Charlie Trotter's (heaven!).

Does anyone know whether there is a nice hotel that is close to both locations? If not, I would appreciate recommendations for proximity to either location.

Thanks a bunch, T

Oprah's studio is located on Washington Street, a mile or so west of the Loop. Charlie Trotter's is on Armitage Avenue in the DePaul (some might call it Lincoln Park) neighborhood. There is a Days Inn Hotel, that was created in a former apartment building on Clark Street, (about 1800 North) across from Lincoln Park, and at the edge of the Old Town neighborhood. (Don't know anything about it, except that it's there) This would be about a 20-25 min walk from Trotters (up Lincoln Avenue about two blocks and west on Armitage about 8-10 blocks). It would be a pleasant walk. You're pretty much going to have to spring for a cab ride to Oprah's - no matter where you stay. Have a great time...e-m if I can answer any ?'s, etc...

I wouldn't try to stay too close to either location, but would choose a hotel on Michigan Ave. There's a wonderful Ritz Carlton in the Water Tower as well as the historic Drake Hotel and many others. You can easily get a taxi to Oprah or to Charlie Trotters. BTW, I hope you enjoy Trotters---we really disliked it and wouldn't return. There are so many other great restaurants in Chicago. I find Trotter's tortured food, extremely high prices, and not a bit of fun. Food should be enjoyed!

I have to agree on Charlie Trotter's--I do a fair amount of business entertaining, but can't say that the place was much of a hit with my group the one time I was there. Too much "food is more important than the diner" in the atmosphere. Too many other good restaurants in town to return to Charlie's! Also think that you would enjoy more staying in the North Michigan Avenue area--Raphael, Whitehall come to mind--and cabbing to Oprah (not a tourist neighborhood at all) AND cHARLIE.

Would also stay near or on Michigan Avenue. There is an Embassy Suites Hotel, The Talbot (a small hotel ) as well as the others previously mentioned. Staying in that area would make the weekend very special. You will have to cab it to both places.
