Opinions: key west accommodation

Hi all
Have just booked the Marker waterfront hotel in key west for two nights ( a weekend in August )
We are a family of four ...
All adults
(Son and daughter)
Don't need kitchen facilities

Has anyone stayed in this hotel or the area?
We want to be close to the old town,
Malory sq
We will have a car ...
doing a trip from Orlando down through Naples key west and miami

Have tried to get a family suite somewhere but the almond tree hotel ( it had two queens plus sofa bed)seems far
I really want walking distance this time

I'm paying $967 aud for the two nights but then there are resort fees and parking fees too!

Still
I'm prepared to fork out the bucks if the location and hotel are 'great'

Have considered the pier hotel
How does it compare location-wise?
Thanks for any bits of advice!

The Pier House is right at the end of Duval and has a small beach... it can get real busy down there, and if a cruise ship comes in, they dock next door... it has a bit more resort feel...

The Marker is only two blocks away and is near the loading area for the Conch train... it is not on the water, but both hotels are a short walk from all of the Key West attractions...

If the rates are similar, I would choose the Pier House for the water access and resort feel... adults also can access the bar and food options...

Location is so similar, it doesn't matter... have fun

Thank you,Gary
Now I can't even remember why I turned from the pier house to the marker
Something about a view of a car Park? I guess that can happen anywhere hey

Ok..I'll look at the pier again

Let me tell you about the Pier House: It fronts on a waterfront bar/restaurant area which can be busy and noisy ALL DAY and into the night.

Last time we stayed at the PH we had a room which overlooked it. For the most part the noise was kept to a low level thanks to window glazing.

You shouldn't have any trouble walking to anything in that area but on weekends the area can get very busy and noisy especially when one (and sometimes two) cruise ships are in.

Thanks dukey

The marker has waterfront in its name
But it's not on the water? How is that fair? Lol

A water idea would be nice at pier house but I've heard that u could get stuck with a carpark view

Back now

The Marker was fabulous
Loved everything about it
great staff...lovely feel in general
beautiful room
huge bathroom with separate bath
lovely balcony overlooking palms and pool
gorgeous décor..fresh white and turquoise accents

great location
away from the smell of keywest duval street...I don't know why they cannot fix the stench of vomit
surely there is some product that can be used...very offputting

had a great bday dinner for OH at the Lobster place and in general wished we could've stayed another day
we did pack it in...snorkelling tour out on the reef and jetskiing

didn't really like the butterfly place...a bit of a rip off but did like the trolley tour of the town
lovely architecture

Did you try "Not Your Average Hotel"? It might be a bit cheaper if they have anything available. It's a nice place with a variety of accommodations, including some hostel-type rooms and bunks. But there are some larger rooms, too.

Lanejohann, IMO you made the right decision. I like Key West (I live on the beach in Fort Lauderdale) but it has changed consdierably since we first visited and that is to be expected.

The whole mobby Duval Street scene can get old pretty fast so happy to hear you were pleased with your accommodation.

So glad you like it. I thought it was an odd location to build it where they did but it looked ok from the outside. I like the Truman annex side of the island best.
A good thunderstorm usually helps with the vomit stench also washing away chicken and cat poop.

http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/merlin-guest-house.html

We stayed at the Merlin House at the recommendation of someone on this board and enjoyed our stay. They did have the sorriest looking bagels as part of the breakfast buffet, however.
