one nighter north shore Kauai

I booked a six night package for the Hyatt Kauai in June - one night free/ breakfast - mainly because I knew my daughter would enjoy the exotic feel of the place and the great pools. BUT, I'm heartbroken not to be spending more time on the north shore. I have toyed with the idea of finding an inexpensive, scenic place to spend one night while keeping our reservation at the Hyatt as is. This would allow me two FULL days and a night up there. I know that most places like Hanalei Colony Resort require a minimum number of nights stay. However, if I showed up someplace and they had an open unit, wouldn't they want to rent it, if only for one night? What do you think? Any recommendations?

We only have 2 hotels on the north shore, and they typically are booked full (or worse yet, _over_ booked) for the summer months. You might want to check this site for rooms for rent in private homes, and book early:

crazy,
I checked out the website auntiem suggested and there are a few b&bs with two night minimums that might be worth checking out. Enjoy the Hyatt...and the rest of the island!

Hi,

You are very fortunate to be staying at the Hyatt Kauai. It would take you less than an hour to drive to the North Shore. I'd do day trips if I were you. You could spend a day on any of the beaches (Haena is at the end of the road), a day snorkeling at Annini beach and have lunch or dinner in Hanelei. Visit the Kilauea lighthouse/bird sanctuary for very nice views. I think you could get a very good feel for the area without actually staying there. You could also have lunch or dinner in Princeville at the hotel there which looks out over the sea.

The island isn't that big and you'll really like the Hyatt! Just a thought.

Thanks, kakalena - That sounds sensible and reassures me. Thanks to auntiemaria and iamq for the tips as well. It sounds like either way, I can't go wrong...

Haven missed swimming in my favorite waters of the north shore this december....how does mid to late april look for swimmable surf in general....friends who have never gone want to join us during kid vacation week next year....I'd much rather go to Hanalei than Maui......but I must swim Tunnels my next trip.....

Kakalena had a great idea! You will be comfortable at the Hyatt and since the north shore is just an hour away, if you put your shorts on, go down and have breakfast and get on the road, you still have lots of time to enjoy the north shore. It may be a little different than actually staying there, but not much.

Gippielou:
The waters will be warmer by April, for sure. We're in a highly unusual cold snap again today -- here in Princeville, at 9:30a.m., it's grey, wet, windy, and only 68 degrees on my lanai.

Brrrrrrrrrr!

The Hanalei Inn is a great spot to stay in the town of Hanalei and there is no minimum stay required. We stayed before and after our kayaking trip and it was very convient and affordable.
