One Night Lodging near Volcano Nt'l Park
Does anyone know a nice bed and breakfast or hotel that will accept a one night reservation for a family of 4 in December?? It seems as if everyone that I have contacted requires a 2 night stay. Would love some suggestions.

I've stayed at Kilauea Lodge. Was there for two nights, but i don't recall that as a requirement.
Also in Volcano Village, try country goose b and b, or one of their (country goose's) cottages. They charge extra (beyond the standard rate) for one night stay, but it is possible to book one night only.
Are you perhaps going during a busy time ( e.g. Christmas season)? That might explain the two night requirement you're encountering.

Country Goose accepts one-night stays. We stayed there for exactly the same reason! www.countrygoose.com They have several cottages that will sleep 4.

We stayed at the Aloha Junction B&B last June for one night. Not fancy but comfortable enough for the three of us.
There are 4 rooms - 2 are fairly close together but noise wasn't an issue. The owners live in a separate house on the property. You have access to the kitchen.
Breakfast was very good, although I wouldn't call it gourmet. Definitely filling!

We stayed in the Kahi Malu cottage, and although we didn't have kids with us, I think it would be perfect in your case. The owner, Kate, is truly a wonderful lady and a wealth of information on the area. I bet you won't want to leave after one night!

We are a family of 4 staying at Lotus Garden Cottages B & B in November-Staying in the Aloha Moon Suite as it has a queen bed and a sleeping loft with two twins-website is volcanogetaway.com Originally were going with Tutu's Place at Kilauea Lodge but the family didn't think it was rainforesty, Zen enough. Volcanovillagelodge.com looks good, too-they didn't have availibilty for us. New jacuzzi at Lotus Garden and no charge for staying single night.

We stayed at Kilauea Lodge - although it was for 2 nights as well. First night we got in late, so the restaurant couldn't seat us until 8:30. By 8:00 I was pooped from the drive from Kona (and all the stops along the way including Costco).
The fireplaced room was so nice, we canceled the reservations and had a picnic in front of the fireplace in August. Loved it!
The next day we decided to walk to the lava at night, so canceled our reservations that we did make while on the mainland. As much as we missed eating dinner there, the breakfast was great and the seeing the lava was the highlight of the trip.
