One night in JAX---HELP

We are flying into JAX on a Friday and leaving for a cruise on Sat. Do we rent a car or take taxis ??---where should we stay for the one night?? What should we see ?? Where should we eat ??
Price is only a small factor(company will pay)---our goal is to experience a little of the local flavor. TIA

Take a cab to the downtown area, stay in one of the hotels on the St Johns River. or rent a car at the airport. You do need a car in Jax to go anywhere. But the hotels are in a good area to walk around in and cabs are easy to call.
Walk around the Landing, go to dinner at Bistro Aix ( www.bistrox.com)
Hotels:
Omni
Hyatt
Hilton
Drive/cab to wherever the boat is the next day.
Jax is so very spread out, and in my opinion, has little local flavor. There are a few really nice neighborhoods with nice homes and a few really good restaurants..but nothing is in one particular spot..
Hope this helps.

I cannot remember how much it is..we took a cab a while back but after that we used a Limo company to and from the airport. Diamond Limo if you decide to do it that way.
You can go to the airport website and get the car rental agencies and find out about prices. It is easy to get into town from the airport, you just go straight south on I-95.
I don't even know where the dock is.. we lived there but never went on a cruise.

ezron, you can do this too, while you wait for someone with personal experience..look on a map and see where the cruise dock is and then just google a cab company and ask for estimates..
I did this with Google
The Jaxport Cruise Terminal is located at the Jacksonville Port Authority's Dame Point Marine Terminal in northeast Jacksonville.

Does anyone else smile when they read this title?

I googled too. There are driving directions on the port's website.

According to mapquest, if you stay at the Hilton the drive will be 12.77 miles and 21 minutes.

I would cab it to one of the hotels Scarlett recommends and then cab it to the port.

Staying on the riverfront is the most "local flavor" you are going to get, unless you just want to drive out to see the beaches. But, with your timeframe, I'd say "no".

IMO Scarlett offers the best advice (as usual)
