One-day side trip from Williamstown MA?
I'll be spending some time in Williamstown MA soon. My question is what to do with a bit of time -- just over 24 hours -- at the end of my trip.
Starting point and time: Williamstown MA, 1pm-ish on a weekday in early November.
Ending point and time: Albany NY airport, 5pm the next day (also a weekday).
I like scenery, history, poking around nice small towns, and museums, in about that order. I'll be traveling and driving alone.
Manchester? Bennington? Suggestions welcomed.

Grandma Moses art collection at Bennington Museum a must! A few years ago, while doing a college tour with our daughter,
we actually spent the night in Bennington
before traveling to Williamstown to visit
Williams. It is only a 1/2 hour drive from
Williamstown to Bennington. The museum
has some other historical items, but this is
a unique opportunity to see the largest public collection of paintings by Grandma
Moses, as well as various personal artifacts
of hers and the actual schoolhouse she attended as a youth. Even if you decide to
travel elsewhere after your visit, this short trip definitely "merits a detour", as those Michelin guides say!
