One day in Los Angeles help

We are arriving into Los Angeles late in the
evening and flying out the next evening late.
We do not want to stay at the airport.
We are looking for a hotel with late check out and a place where we can walk around and enjoy the area. Any suggestions

I would probably stay at an airport-area hotel (a couple of them are actually pretty nice), and spend the next day in a quickly-accessible area like Marina del Rey/Venice Beach or maybe Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach. Santa Monica is a bit farther north than MDR, but you can find a lot to do in the area around Santa Monica Pier, then grab a cab back to the hotel to pick up your bags (you could check out in the AM and check your bags with the bell captain).

If I had one day in LA, I'd probably stay in the heart of West LA - either Santa Monica or Beverly Hills. Have breakfast at the Beverly Hills Hotel, then walk around Rodeo Drive. Spend your afternoon in Santa Monica - 3rd Street Promenade is fun and the peir, too. Then it's a pretty quick hop down the 405 to LAX. Enjoy!

If you want a hotel that picks you up at the airport probably Best Western Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina Del Rey. Or Quality Inn Hermosa Beach.

It depends on when you're coming. I'd suggest Marina del Rey, because it's close to the airport and easy access to Santa Monica and West L.A.

I would not stay in or visit Beverly Hills right now due to the horrible construction going on in the business section (Rodeo Drive especially).

I live in LA, and in my opinion, there's not much to do in Marina del Rey. I'd suggest Santa Monica. You can book a hotel via one of the discount internet sights, then simply take a taxi ($20-30) or the Supershuttle (I believe it's $19 each) from LAX to the hotel and back (30 min. ride or less). Santa Monica is beautiful and probably what people picture in their minds when they think "L.A.". As another poster mentioned, the 3rd Street Promenade is loads of fun. So is wandering up and down Montana Ave. or Main Street. Plus, you can check out the beach and the pier! There are LOADS of great restaurants. If you want to really treat yourself, I'd recommend Ivy at the Shore ($50 a person and up). A much more reasonable nice dinner out is The Galley on Main St. - fresh fish. Yum!
