Omni Royal Orleans or other Quarter Hotel?

Been a while since I lived/worked in NO and will be back again for a few nights later this year.

Prefer to stay in the FQ as opposed to over on Canal or in other parts of the CBD.

Have looked at the recs here and on TA. Ritz? No full-sized pool. Monteleone? STILL charging for WiFi

The Royal has been described by some as needing a reno while others say that is just a "vintage" hotel. Please!

Budget is not an issue.

Suggestions welcome and no need for a Bourbon balcony as I've been there and done that.

Thanks

Thanks, Rich, but as you may have read, I have an "issue" with the Monteleone

The Omni is in a great location and check out Napoleon House on the corner for drinks. I think Sylvain is around the corner...great gastro pub. The W in the Qtr is good and nearby, but no restaurant right now. Bacco closed and I don't know when they will replace it.

The Roosevelt is really nice and close but it is across Canal.

There's a newer hotel called Marais but I have not stayed there. I always stayin the CBD because it is so easy to walk over to the Qtr and you don't have to deal with the drunks at night...just my preference.

We just got back two weeks ago. We stayed at Dauphine Orleans and thought (1) the location was great!! - about 2 blocks from Bourbon street so you avoid the noise but really close; (2) rooms were nice size (we had a king premium Room 326) with the window opening to a small balcony with table and two chairs. Now the window was a tad hard to get up but it was still fun; (3) breakfast was included in the rate as were a couple of drink coupons for the bar which was a nice perk; and (4) staff was friendly. We would definetly stay there again.

Dukey, just wanted to say, DH began his long hotel career at the Royal Orleans 44 years ago, as Asst Controller. As 20 something's we thought it to be the most lavish place imaginable. Its European/Cornell trained GM (who later went on to own and operate Arnaud's, and whose children still do) got him off on the right foot in the hospitality industry. I hope nothing has changed there, attitude-wise, but am afraid it's difficult to maintain in this day and age. It was a Sonesta Hotel then too, a very strongly service oriented company, not an Omni ( not that that is a bad chain). If you decide to stay there, please let us know how it was!
