Old Myrtle Beach Hotels/Models

Someone from SC sent this to me and I thought I would share. I grew up in the area and remember so many of these places. Maybe others of you remember them too. The music is great--old "shag" music.

I think the Gay Dolphin is still around. I was a grill man at The Pavilion in '58 when the seafood platter at the Inlet Kitchen was $1.75..

The title should read "Hotels/Motels"--NOT Models.

Those WERE the days, suewoo. Nothing like a night of shagging at the OD Pavilion.

My friends and I were waitresses in the summers at several of the restaurants and hotels in the area in the '50's while going to college.

I think the OD pavilion was really the "Pad". Maybe you were thinking of "Sonny's" at Cherry Grove.

Ah....the Pad. Wonderful place. But before the Pad, there was a pavilion where you could dance next to the beach. A hurricane washed it away.

The Pad. Ah memories. it's where I learned to shag. A very long time ago. To "miss grace".

Friends of ours had a house at OD/Cherry Grove right next to the first "fine" hotel built there. I can't quite call the name now. There was a real downtown then. This was in the 60's--they changed the name to NMB soon after that. It was a REAL beach then!

This was well before my time but it really makes me sad how great MB used to be compared to now. Thanks for posting.
I grew up enjoying MB in the 80s and 90s and it was still great then. I hate what the officials and the transplants have done to MB the past decade or more.

Oh, I miss it. Think I'll go visit my friend who still lives in "OD". But then, it's never the same.

Long story short. When DH and I were "courting" in NYC (you KNOW how long ago that is using that term!!) he was visiting his folks in NC and they were at OD. He called me from a pay phone on the square in OD to say "hello"!!! And his family had been coming to the beach--OD or Pawley's--for the 30 years before that!!
We are here now, as a matter o' fact--beautiful sunny day after a ridiculously cold one yesterday. Oysters for dinner tonight!!
