That's my question: Is October a good time to visit Yosemite?
Has anyone been there at that time? Is mid month a comfortable time to go?
We could also go in November, but I'm worried about weather issues.
I would like to go this year, 2013, and need to plan now, I guess.
thanks

The waterfalls will be mostly dry, but the weather should still be nice in October. It's been a long time since I've been there in the fall, but I remember it wasn't as crowded.

I like going in the fall. It's very pretty, low crowd levels. I knoiw a lot of people want to see them but Yosemite is so much more than waterfalls. Many people who go in April & May, when waterfalls are gushing, miss out on much of the park which is still inaccessible due to snow. I guess you can't really have it all cuz even in June many hikes are still covered in snow - especially off Tioga road.
Go in Ocotber, weather shoudl be nice, park will be in fall colors.
> Is October a good time to visit Yosemite?
ANY TIME is a good time to visit Yosemite. It's one of those places for which each of the seasons have their pluses and minuses, but the spectacular scenery makes it a great place to visit ANY month of the year.
I agree with Paul. I have been in Yosemite in the first week of November. Luckily it was a moderately warm day. There was a little water coming over the falls but nothing like the spring.
The rocks and short hikes are what I'm there to see without too much worry about how much water is coming over the falls.
If you can get lodging in the park (not camping) make your reservation now.
The weather is almost alway great in October. However, I think it was in October 2011 that it snowed in early October. It didn't last long but we had to skedaddle back home before they closed the pass we were taking across the Sierra Nevada. I'm pretty sure that they closed Tioga Road for a while then, too.
Really, though, I agree that any time is a great time to go to Yosemite although which section of Yosemite is great to visit varies over the year. But in October, you will probably be able to visit everywhere in the park.
I've been going to Yosemite since I was a kid.
October is a very good time, first 2 weeks.
If you want lodging in the park, you need to go through the park's official reservations website, and ONLY this one.

The website is not user friendly, so you have to be patient.
October would be an excellent time.
Thanks all. I have reservations for 3 nights at the Lodge at the Falls. I'm so excited. Next is to get the air reservations. I think we will fly AA into Fresno and then out of LA to see some family, but that's a new thread!
I looked up the location - loved it! We were in October in Mariposa area - nice days, cool nights. The last day was rainy.
Don't miss the Glacier point - print out maps, directions, or look up shuttles. Look at my photo (and you can click "next" if you want to see more)

If you don't want to drive, there are free shuttles in the park.
October is hit or miss. We went last year and parts were already closed for weather by 10.15.
Faina, thanks for the photos; I looked at all of them.
Hit or miss is a drag, but it looks like we are going.
