October 1st visit to the Greenbrier
Will be having a girls' weekend at the Greenbrier at the end of October.
I've been to their comprehensive website. We'll be staying in "Paradise Row". We wanted Spring Row because of location, but not available during our time.
Any recommendations for our 3 day stay would be welcome. We are planning on visiting The Bunker, and the spa. We enjoy walks, scenery, and fine dining.

My wife and I have been to The Greenbrier 3 times. We went twice in the summer and once in the winter. I think I like the winter best. My wife went ice skating and I walked on the golf course. There were deer everywhere. The GB is like a small city. They have a clinic there as well as a theater. We enjoyed having a late breakfast, walking around the hotel, massages and then dinner. It's a lovely resort. There's a casino there now which does not interest me but it may you. We rode horses also. It's not an easy drive and there's not much close by. White Sulphur Springs does not offer a lot but we did not search too hard.
Go and have fun. You will be planning a return trip again soon. If you want a fantastic trip similar to the GB but not as big consider a few days at Blackberry Farm S of Knoxville, TN. It's one of the finest small resorts I ever visited. The food, service, spa and activities are outstanding. You could drive easily if you live in VA or even WVA, NC, GA, AL or KY.

We did have a wonderful time. With one area of exception, the service was perfect. No request was met with anything less than an "Of course!"
Our only criticism was in the restaurants. Service was well-intentioned and very polite, but the kitchen and the wait staff didn't always have things well-coordinated. Sometimes we waited too long for food, or for our waiter's attention. That occurred in the main dining room as well as in the steak restaurant. The food was very good, not remarkable, but very good. The breakfast buffet is sumptuous.
It's a quiet resort. Very golf-oriented, but also indoor and outdoor pools, and an absolutely gorgeously-appointed and impeccably-managed spa. The grounds in autumn were beautiful. There are some marked walking trails which are flat, as well as some more challenging routes. There is also a casino in the main building.
We stayed in Paradise Cottages, a 5-minute walk to the main building. At first I was concerned that we were in a secondary part of the property, but we immediately loved our private cottage, with a huge master bedroom, a sofabed in the living room (mattress so-so) two full bathrooms, and a working fireplace. The decor was a little dated, but very clean and cozy. Room service was provided to our cottage with as much finesse and amenities (including a flower in a vase) as if we were in any other fine hotel room. Though transported by van, food arrived hot and within 15 minutes.
Vans circulate the large property, making deliveries,and transporting guests from one place to another if they don't care to walk.
The average age of guests is high, though we did see a couple of wedding parties with younger people. It was a luxurious, relaxing, and pampering get-away, and I can't wait to go again.
