Oct weather in Santa Fe
Can anyone tell me what the weather is like in New Mexico the first two weeks of October? Thinking of going around the 8th for the week to Santa Fe and Taos. Will it be too cold or rainy?

Spectacular time of year to visit. Can be warm and sunny in the daytime (60-75 degrees F) and will be chilly/cold in the evening (40s?). One mid-October, I spent one day hiking in short-sleeves, the next day leaving early for the airport in a stunning snowstorm-squall (which melted rapidly).

Hi GerdaFaust!
Typical mountain weather, very unpredictable! Cool at night means we can turn on the fireplace!
My other concern was that the Balloon Festival is the same week so I'm afraid it will be too crowded. We could always change our travel dates to the end of September.

You won't really feel the effects of Balloon Fiesta in either SF or Taos.
Too cold? That depends on what you want to do and what you consider cold.
Highs are low 60's and lows are high 30's. The sun and the altitude makes it feel warmer, but when the sun goes down - it will be pretty cool.
Dressing in layers is the way to go.
Aren't you interested in seeing the Balloon Fiesta? It is amazing; I can't imagine coming to NM at that time of year and not seeing the Fiesta. OR coming a week before it and missing it.
