Ocean Vacation in Pass Christian?

Attempting to avoid the Florida "crush" at Easter, we are looking into other areas for a family vacation. 6 adults, 3 small boys. Our travel agent suggested a condo in Pass Christian (?). Totally unfamiliar with the area, but the travel agent made it sound nice. Anyone out there with any advice? Thanks!

hi, Judy! We've been through Pass Christian quite a few times, but I'm not sure it'd be a place for a vacation! Unless I'm mistaken, the beach there is pretty awful...and beyond that, there really isn't anything to do. I have an old Fodor's travel guide that suggests the beach along that entire coast isn't worth visiting. But hey...why not go a little farther east to Destin? It's a really wonderful place, and I'm sure you and your family would love it! Try the San Destin...but before you do that..check the weather that time of year...we've only been there during the summer, and I'm not sure if it's warm enough during Easter. Have fun

I'm sorry to say I've tried several times to answer your question with little luck I've driven through Pass Christian quite a few times on the way to other places. I'd strongly advise you to check with a reputable travel agent, or even a local chamber of commerce before you decide to stay in Pass Christian. Pass Christian is really a pretty place! But the beach along the gulf is really awful...I have a Fodor's guide that suggests folks NOT stay on that side of the Gulf. If I were you, I'd go a little bit further to Destin...and stay at the San Destin, though I don't know what the weather is that time of year....sorry I can't be more help! Good luck!

The gremlins have taken over this travel board!! I did NOT write either of the previous responses, and can't imagine how my name got used! Oddly enough, though, I DO agree with what was said...and I have driven through Pass Christian quite a few times. I also have an old travel guide that suggests people not swim along that part of the beach...and I, too, question if Easter would be warm enough for beach activities, anyway.

I would NOT suggest Pass Christian for a family beach vacation. I agree with the suggestion to head to Florida. If you want to stay away from Destin (great beaches but it does get crowded) or Gulf Shores (not as nice as Destin in my opinion but very popular and less expensive than Destin), I would recommend Navarre Beach which is half-way between Pensacola and Destin with few hotels but lots of condo rentals. It's a lot quieter than Destin or Gulf Shores. The MS beaches are NOT for swimming. I grew up there and remember swimming in the gross water 25 years ago, but wouldn't put my big toe in it now.

I agree, forget Pass Christian. Its a cute little town, but not for a vacation. I go to the panhandle of FL a couple of times a year and haven't seen a "crush" other than Memorial Day and afterwards. Nontheless, I highly recommend Santa Rosa Island directly off Pensacola. It doesn't have the crowds of Destin and, in my opinion, is more diverse with the same beautiful beach and water. I rent through Sandcastle Realty. Have fun!
