Fellow Fodorites:
I'm planning a 9 night romantic vacation to Hawaii--arriving this Thursday
Spending the first 6 nights at the Sheraton Maui, but am unsure as to whether to spend the last 3 nights at the Westin Princeville Villas on Kauai or the Westin Moana Surfrider on Oahu. Flying back at 5pm from Honolulu on the 20th. Any advice would be much appreciated--the 2 properties will cost me the same, so cost is not an issue. Thanks!

Kaui, definitely Kaui.
Kauai, Kauai, Kauai,
Only 3 nights and you are flying home from Oahu? Defintely Oahu. You will love it.
I love Waikiki myself, but I don't think it's what most people picture when they thing "romantic" Hawaii. It's a very busy city.
I think it depends on what you like to do. Oahu and Kauai are very different. Kauai is absolutely gorgeous and there are plenty of outdoor things to do. Oahu is spectacular in its own way. There is more of a night-life and a larger variety of things to do. You really can't go wrong on either island!
OMG, Kauai is gorgeous! We went in February and hated to leave! Go there!
Thanks for all the advice--Kauai seems stunningly gorgeous and I think 3 days would at least leave enough time to see the island.
More to see & do on Oahu than Kauai.
Lots of info including sites with free brochures for all islands:

What are you looking for as far as entertainment?
Oahu has some nice beaches but I was disappointed in Honolulu. It's one of the most unattractive cities I've seen. Poorly planned and traffic is horrible.
Waikiki is, as someone else said, "very busy".
Kauai is the best, we just got back from a fabulous vacation there.
Kauai is the most beautiful. Make sure you see the Na Pali Coast and visit Waimea Canyon.
We loved Kauai - the Na Pali coast is the most beautiful place I've ever seen.
With airfare prices so high, I'd say Oahu since you will be flying out of Honolulu.
If money is not an issue...I'd say Kauai. Just got back yesterday and it was fabulous as usual.
Money isn't an issue because the interisland flights are free as I'm using FF miles. 3 days enough time to spend in Kauai?
If you have the option to drop a night from Maui, I'd add one to Kaui - especially since you will really only have the morning on the day you fly home from Honolulu.
jason, three months is not enough time to spend on Kauai!! I don't think 3 days is enough time since you will have the time at the airports involved and will take up the better part of a day.
def kauai, although i can't really be objective. i've been to the islands nine times and still not been to oahu, so maybe there's something ono there too.
cannot compare the two - kauai is romantic and slower pace and Oahu at least Waikiki Beach is fast and crowded. Sitting on the beach in Waikiki you get your 2 square feet of room where as Kauai you get the whole beach in some places. NOW the Other side of Oahu is much calmer and peaceful but not the abundance of hotels. I'm a Kauai girl myself. Go to Waikiki if I am with girl friends......
It's better to have spent 3 days on Kauai than to never have seen it at all. It'll just leave you with a desire to return...soon! By all means, choose KAUAI!!!
I love Kauai but with only 9 nts. and having to fly out of Oahu, you would be wasting valuable beach/sightseeing/relaxation time, checking out, returning car, waiting in airports, checking in, getting another car. Spend that time seeing Oahu and max out your island time. All the Hawaiian islands are wonderful. I have not been to Oahu but would love to explore the northshore.
I spent a couple weeks in Hawaii, one week in Kauai (Princeville) and one week in Ohau (Waikiki). Both are great in their own way but I can't wait to return someday to Kauai. It rained a lot in Kauai, but regardless this is one of the most beautiful places on earth. And unlike ultra crowded Waikiki, you will have entire beaches to yourself. Out of all the islands, Kauai is my favorite even when it rains.
I've never seen a place as beautiful as Kauai.
