We're heading over to the north shore (near Sunset beach) during Thanksgiving week with our three girls, ages 20,16 & 13.
Any advice on where to go for Thanksgiving dinner (no luau though, we'll do that another night.)
And besides the surfing competition (the whole point of the trip as far as the girls are concerned!) what activities would you suggest? We like outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking, snorkeling) more than touristy activities. We would like to go to less crowded places if possible; off the beaten path type of places. We've been to Hawaii numerous times but haven't stayed on Oahu before, and we're starting to get that great vacation anticipation!

We loved our recent one week stay on Sunset Beach! Your girls are going to love it too I'm sure. We really liked Shark's Cove for snorkeling (much less crowded than Hanauma Bay). If they like to horseback ride go to Kualoa Ranch. They have other activities you might be interested in as well. Here's the website:

I would guess the Turtle Bay would have a big Turkey Buffet. Spend at least one day at Kailua Beach trying out the water sports there- kite surfing and kayaking. You can shell hunt for the valuable sunrise shells. I like the horseback rides along the shore at Turtle Bay. Not sure if Sharks Cove will be safe then or not. There is a north shore whale watch tour. Shark dives if you are brave. You can swim at Waimea Falls. There are sacred grounds around there somewhere you can hike. Sometimes at Sandy's beach there will be kite go carts. Manoa Valley Hike, Diamond Head Hike.... see if Stairway to Heaven is open yet. Rent a boat and go out to the sandbar in Kaneohe Bay.
Thanks! Those sound like great suggestions. But what is "Stairway to Heaven"?
Off to google the rest of them now!
