Oahu Intra-Island Connection - Continental to Hawaiian Air

Hawaiian air encouraged me to send an email with this question. They will get back to me. Unfortunately, it's in a week when I'll already be in Maui. Continental has lengthy wait times to speak with a person.

Unfortunately, neither airline nor the airport has very good information on their websites.

Will eventually call both, but will try this route, too.

Arrive Friday early evening on Continental with a connection to a Hawaiian Air Flight about 90 minutes later. (My wife is flying in from a different airport and has a one hour connection.)

Can I connect from Continental to Hawaiin Air without needing to go through security in Honolulu?

Any recent experience checking your bag through to Hawaiian air from the Continental Flight from the mainland?

Assuming I cannot check my bag through and need to pick it up in Honolulu, how what is your experience in how long it takes to get to the Intra-Island terminal and through the Hawaiian Air check-in/security?

Thanks

Continental will check your bag all the way through to Maui.

As long as you have your boarding passes, you can go to the Hawaiian gates without going outside security. Stay on the second (gate level) and walk or go up to the third level and take a wiki wiki bus to your gate. Just don't head down the escalators to the baggage claim area! It's a healthy hike, so don't dawdle, but you should have plenty of time.

Finally found a live person at Hawaiian air. What they told me lcuy was that I did need to claim my bags and recheck them because my reservations are not linked.

Not worried about me as I have almost two hours. Problem is my wife has an hour as she arrives on a different flight.

You still may be able to do it.

When you check you bags in at the airport, ask the agent.

Dusty is right. Just show them your ticket and ask.

However, maybe your wife should plan to bring only carry on luggage as hers is the tighter connection. (You could pack any extra stuff she needs).

She'd be able to stay inside security no matter what, and you would only have to exit if Continental won't transfer your bags.

Ryan-I agree with the others (and will hold a good thought that CO will do this for you.)
I think it's quite common between Hawaiian and the other carriers at HNL.
I've never had a problem with USAir checking me through
to wherever I'm going after Honolulu, nor with Hawaiian
checking me through to my home destination via USAir.
Love the wiki wiki.

Oh, forgot to add, my air rezzies are not "linked"
either. Mainly because I am so happy to get the
"big" trip from the mainland nailed down, that I tend to
dawdle on the connecting island hops.
