Has anyone else seen these suggestions for restaurant staffers from a New York Times blog? I think most of them are right on the mark:

Reminds me of a topic I started a year or so ago on the small extras that make a big difference in hotel rooms:

Fodorites responded with some great suggestions. When I get some time sometime, maybe I'll compile that list and send it to the major hotel chains.

I read both parts earlier today - all 100 items and agree with most of them whole heatedly.
There are a couple of restaurants I frequent both at home and when I travel, and the wait staff at both is very skilled and follows most of these suggestions diligently.
For a restaurant the quality of the food is paramount, but quality of service is a close second.
I agree with the items mentioned with this exception: and it's about specials - and there were some instructions about announcing specials. But- if this restaurant owner really wants to help his customers - if you have specials - give it on a separate paper with the menu and show the prices for each item. I have trouble remembering or trying to remember some of those long recitations and if the menu shows the price for vsrious dishes - what's so special about specials that they don't announce those prices. And I have also noticed that some restaurants charge well above listed menu prices for "specials". At the very least - this guy should have instructed his staff to announce the price of specials.
Re: jroth "At the very least - this guy should have instructed his staff to announce the price of specials."
he did...it was on the part 2 of the list, today.
but this is a major pet peeve of mine...they force you to ask, which makes you look frugal even when that's not the issue. why would it be important to inform a customer of prices for menu items but not for specials? all of a sudden, money doesn't matter?
#101-Turn down the #$&%%$#(*& music esp. the thumpa thumpa thumpa...that seems to be playing on a loop.
