NYC - Where to eat before/after a show that is at Westside Theatre?
I am taking my DD2 to NYC over Labor Day weekend for her 21st birthday. We have tickets to a Saturday night show at Westside Theatre. (Life, Loves and What I Wore). I am looking for a decent place to dine (probably afterwards) because we will most likely be shopping all day on Saturday. DD2 is into fashion. I have tickets to Statue of Liberty on Sunday. This is a surprise - we haven't been in 10 years. She will be so excited!
We will be staying at On The Avenue (Upper West Side). Any thoughts on good places to eat are appreciated. Willing to spend for a decent bottle of wine at dinner- expecting $250 range, just the two of us - mom and daughter. Less expensive meals for breakfast/lunch.
thanks!

We have over 10,000 restaurants in Manhattan, so you won't have a problem finding just the right place. I'd suggest going to open table and yelp for info and reviews.
I think I walked by the theatre just the other day just off 8th Ave and 43rd, so you have so many choices in that area, both up and down 8th and 9th Ave, every single block will have many restaurants. You can also walk up to Restaurant Row for more choices.
In that immediate area I don't know of any that stick out in my mind they are more local spots.
I can recommend Flute Bar (also a restaurant),around 51st off 7th, for a nice spot. If you feel like walking a bit an iconic spot is the Russian Tea Room on 57th next to Carnegie Hall.
Have a lovely time while you are here.

Literally around the corner is one of my favorite places, the West Bank Cafe. It's at 407 W. 42nd and the theatre is at 407 W. 43rd. I love the place - AND I enjoyed the show when I saw it about a year ago.

Other Fodorites have mentioned Chez Josephine but I've not eaten there - yet.

Dopo Teatro is very nice. One of my colleagues hosts a "Carnevale" party there every year and the food is always delicious.
I agree with starrs about West Bank Cafe. It's also very nice.
For future reference, Puttanesca on 9th Ave in the high 40's is another good choice - reasonably priced, good Italian food, friendly service.

Don't blow a lot of money on a post theater meal. Save the splurge for a night when dining is the main event. I'm sure Dopo Teatro is good but Chez Josephine has live music and might be more fun. Dizzy's Coca Cola in the Time Warner building has live jazz, a nice view and is in the direction back to your hotel.
If you're shopping around Union Square during the day, Blue Water Grill is a good option for brunch.

Agree not to do the special dinner the same night as the show. Either way you will be rushed and not really enjoy the meal. For a special meal - tell us what type of food you really like and go when you can relax - not be worried about making the show - or having a full meal at 11 pm. (We often eat after a show (since we're working before - but we usually have a late lunch and a light dinner afterwards - then walk home to get rid of the late-night calories.
