This was a quick 3 night trip to NYC to see and do some specific things. We have been a few times before. I read so many trip reports and got some great ideas for our trip. thanks to all
3 of us on the trip - me, DH, and my sweet mother
We stayed at the Gotham Hotel - fabulous room, roll-away for Mom (at 95 pounds it wasn't a big deal for her). We stayed in the Skyline room - great size balcony. The staff was what really made the hotel great! Very relaxed atmosphere in the hotel - there isn't even a check in desk, they put you on the sofa and give you a glass of wine while they check you in.The restaurant there - TenPenny - was very good. DH was there before us and he had dinner there. He had crispy artichokes for apps, entree was black garlic spaghettini with lump crab, chorizo and scallions.
We went to The Met, The Frick - great collections of art and some special works that we specifically went to see.
Broadway - we saw "The Best Man" and it was very good. We all three disagree on which actor was the best, but I will still vote for James Earl Jones. They were all fabulous though.
Food: We went to eat at Daniel's and it did not disappoint! A once in a lifetime experience for us. We all had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Sweetbreads, caviar, veal trio - which included cheeks and they were awesome. The salmon wrapped and steamed was such a change and the sea bass was spectacular. The service was impeccable but was not stuffy. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Our other meals were local bistros and were all very good. Our biggest and best surprise was Wolf and Lamb which we just stumbled upon - open grill - all good meals, the matzo ball soup was a wonderful surprise.
We did the Central Park carriage ride, we had drinks in the Plaza, we went to the Top of the Rock, we shopped, we walked and then we had wine on the balcony and relaxed.![]()

We had a great long weekend and came home utterly exhausted! The weather wasn't too warm or too cold - it was overcast and a bit misty, but we thought it was perfect.

Nice Report - I too liked Best Man, esp. James Earl Jones.
Daniel's is such a treat....glad you had a fun-filled action-packed trip.
Wonderful report! I am so jealous about Best Man - it is schedulded to close before I get there this summer. The room sounds delightful and to have a terrace?! What a treat! Glad you enjoyed Daniel. It's a friend's favorite. Wolf and Lamb sounds great. Maybe I'll try it when I'm there. Glad you found something quickly.
What a wonderful weekend!
I can only hope that one day one of my kids will treat me as well as you treat your Mom. WHat a fantastic trip for her, and for you and DH. You made my day.
