Hi
We will visiting NYC over Thanksgiving and planning to catch the parade. We are planning to view the parade near the Macy’s store – is this the best location or is there an alternative location you would recommend – just want to take a few snaps so don’t have to be right in front.
Thanks

You won't be able to get within four blocks of the store because there is no public access to the parade route on 6th Ave between 34th and 38th Streets or on 34th Street between Broadway and 7th Ave where the performances are.
You can check the site for last year's parade at the Huffington Post. http://tinyurl.com/29t4omt Also, search the forum for other suggestions as this has been discussed before.
The area in front of the store is reserved for TV broadcasters and VIP grandstands. the closest you can get is 4 or 5 blocks north and to see anything there you need to be there by about 6 am. Almost a million people watch this parade and sidewalks near Herald Square fill up very early. If you went to see anything - unless you are 6'6" or more - you need to head further uptown if you want to get there any later.
Near Macy's is the worst place to try to see the parade. I recommend going to the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle. Go up the escalator and there are windows onto Columbus Circle. The parade turns the corner there. You should get some nice photos. Info from last year http://nymag.com/guides/holidays/thanksgiving/51797/
