NYC restaurant for Thanksgiving
Would like recommendations for Thanksgiving early evening meal. We are staying in Times Square and seeing a play at 8:00. Two adults and ten year old. Would prefer traditional Thanksgiving menu selection, moderate price range ($50.00 adult). Thanks.

Typically the places serving a typical Thanksgiving meal have set seatings and limited menus -and you will definitely need reservations. We don;t eat out - but I'm not sure what there will be for a whole meal for that price range - unless you mean drinks, tax and tip will be additional.
Also, since places are usually packed with everyone doing multi-course dinners you will need to allow extra time - would probably need to do a 4 pm dinner - unless you can find a place that serves at 5 pm (later than that will be problematic to make the show.)
Suggest you go to Open Table now to see who is serving on thanksgiving, the set price and what seating times they have. Don;t wait - since places (unless you want an ethnic meal) are usually reserved fairly far in advance.

Just glanced and West Bank Cafe has a 3 course meal prix fixe for $45 plus beverages, tax and tip. You can search a special Thanksgiving section on the web site if you want - and then call to find out about the menu.

There are several midtown restaurants that I like around that price range. Marseille (44th/9th Ave.) usually has Thanksgiving for around $45. I see that Molyvos has a menu for $45. Osteria al Doge has a meal for $40. And of course West Bank Cafe, which is a really good choice. I've eaten at all these restaurants and like the food at all of them, but none really specializes in this type of food, but I've been to Marseille for Thanksgiving a few times.
Of late, my annual Thanksgiving tradition has become roast suckling pig at Maialino, and I hope to do that again this year. That restaurant costs more than $50 though.
My advice is to schedule your dinner after the parade but quite a bit before the theater so you aren't stuffed. I'd recommend 4pm, which is usually an easy table to book because it's an in-between time.

If you go to opentable.com select Thanksgiving and the time you'd like to eat...then, if you want to be near the theater, select Times Square, midtown west, Hell's Kitchen or all of those; you'll see lots of other options in addition to the ones already mentioned.. EtceteraEtcetera is an Italian in the area that doesn't have a set menu (imo a good thing) but rather has some added items special for the day like squash soup and turkey. But it means you dont have to pay for the 10 year old to eat a 3 course meal if he/she doesn,t want to. I like Marseille but it can be very loud. I also like Molyvos.

I eat there every time I'm in NYC and ate there on Thanksgiving a few years ago. I made the reservations for late afternoon and it was a wonderful meal and excellent service. Many locals were eating there as well. HIGHLY recommend.
