Would appreciate suggestions on how to spend a few hours before we see Jersey Boys this Saturday. There are 9 "girls" meeting midtown west and would rather not have to take cabs. All have been to NYC but old friends getting together so not sure what to do or where to go for a few hours.
NYC pre-theater matinee suggestions appreciated

Well presumably you'll want to have lunch someplace. Why not go someplace relaxed where you can linger? Of head to MoMA for a visit and lunch there.
It will be easier for us to help you if you give us some idea of the things you like--art, history, shopping, walking tours, etc.
Thanks for your help. As I said, there will be nine of us getting together for the show and then dinner afterward. Six of us will arrive by car at around 11 am and park in the Hippodrome garage on 6th Ave. We will then figure on a place to meet up with our other 3 friends who are staying in the city. Although we all love to shop and go to museums etc... we just want something low key or something interesting to do until the matinee. I think Grand Central Station is very interesting and also actually like the library and Bryant Park. One of my friends wanted to walk or cab to Eataly but I feel that would be too far with that many people and not enough time. Any suggestions that anyone has are greatly appreciated! ***that big a group having lunch may take too long so perhaps someplace along the way strike our fancy
The Highline and Chelsea Market might satisfy your needs. Make a reservation at Cookshop and then take one of the 8th avenue trains to the theater district.
Eataly is a zoo especially on weekends.
Agree it would be impossible for 9 people to "stroll" around Eataly together - it's hard enough for 2 to stay together! The Chelsea Market is better but not much.
I think the High Line and lunch is a great idea, especially if the weather is good.
I'd vote for the Grand Central/Bryant Park combo, there's a big food court in GCT for a quick bite and an audio tour is available.
I'm assuming the garage you mean is on 44th between 6th & 5th. Within walking distance, you have not only the main library on Fifth ave. & Bryant Park, but also the Morgan Library. Walking to Rockefeller Center at 49th st. and doing Top of the Rock would also work and having a look in St. Patrick's if you've not done these before. There's a food court in the basement of Rock. Ctr. If you decide to do Top of the Rock, I'd ask one of the women staying in Manhattan to pick up tickets in advance since your group is large.
Interesting exhibit at the main library - 'Celebrating 100 Years.' That plus Grand Central and / or Bryant Park is a good option.
You also have the International Center for Photography nearby at 43rd and 6th. In addition to their Sept 11th exhibit(s), they have depression era photography and Vanity Fair fashion photography.
