Want to see as much as we can- (50's couple)- coming up from Philly- Thought we might head over on SIF , then hit WTC, bus or subway to Times square, bit of Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Wall St Not much for shopping, just wanna see the sites. Thinking of heading on out of town around sixish. Doable ? Hints? Suggestions?

What is SIF?

That is a lot for one day.

Decide what you want to see most.

And some paces may be closed on Easter. Fifth Avenue is shut Down for much of the day for the Easter "parade". If you want to see the sights, Saturday is a better bet. If you want to cover all that ground in one day (and it is a lot) then the subway is a must.

I was in NYC once on Easter Sunday. I did enjoy seeing the Easter Bonnets and Yul Brenner from the rear. Yes, it was that long ago. http://gonyc.about.com/od/easterinne...-York-City.htm
I don't know how long they shut down Fifth Avenue for the "Parade"

Now everybody looks like Yul Brenner from the rear.

The financial district is dead on Easter Sunday - don;'t waste your time.

If SIF mean Staten Island Ferry - from Philadelphia you are better off taking the train and entering the city via Penn Station.

Fifth Avenue in the upper 40's and 50's (near Rock Center - not Plaza - and St Pat's plus a couple of other churches) is the home of the Easter Parade. Not an actual parade but a huge number of locals out to show off their spring finery - ranging from families with adorable identical kids to the bizarre (one year I saw a woman of a certain age in a scarlett o'hara type yellow georgette gown and picture hat - and on top of the hat was her pet iguana - dressed identically, down to the yellow picture hat). There are always women with huge hats with bird cages/small birds in them on top.

Central Park will depend on the weather. Times Square is always there and nothing to do with easter.

Strongly reco you make reservations for lunch or dinner if you want anything more than a casual deli or cafe.

I'll assume that SIF is Staten Island Ferry but no one would know that so I don't know where you heard it referred to that way!

Well, since you said you just want to see some sights --nothing wrong with that ---there's no reason Easter should be a problem.

The ferry runs 365 days a year, but check if the WTC memorial is open that day. Walk over to Wall Street (Stock Exchange building, Federal Hall). Subway uptown to Central Park, then work your way down 5th Avenue to Rockefeller Center (yes, the Easter "parade" is in that area, then walk to Times Square to see the craziness there.

Many stores will be closed, and some restaurants will have special elaborate expensive menus. But assuming that you'll just snack along the way, take some pictures at these locations why not?

One caveat--Easter is early this year and March can still be cold and rainy. Dress accordingly as you'll be outside most of the time
